Something in the alley grabbed me from behind.

Something evil, I was sure of it.

---

I'm a little ahead of myself in this story.

First of all, it would be incredibly rude of me if I didn't introduce myself. My name is Michelle Barr, and this is my story of how I had a run in with The Beatles, and how that run in grew to something more.

---

"LEAVE THIS HOUSE IMMIDIATLEY! IF I SEE YOUR FACE AT MY DOORSTEP ONE MORE TIME, GOD HELP ME I WILL STAB YOU!" My mom yelled at me, her un-lit cigarette still hanging from her dry lips. I will never forget the anger I saw on her face that day. It twisted her face into something ugly.

I looked at my dad, as if I expected help. He couldn't even look at me, he turned his face away in shame. As I began to leave, I turned around and yelled "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE KICKING YOUR OWN DAUGHTER OUT BECAUSE SHE PREFERS GIRLS OVER GUYS!"

My dad, holding his bible open to a certain page, began reading the same verse he read over and over to himself last night when I told him. "Romans 1:26 - 27: 'Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.' It's unnatural and your mother will not tolerate it in this house!"

I knew my dad would bust the Bible out on me, after all, he and my mom are very religious people. I knew it was wrong, but I shouted a verse back at them. "1 Timothy 5:8: 'But if anyone does not provide for his own, especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.' That shows you guy are being irrational!"

A still lit cigarette flew past my head. "LEAVE!" my mom yelled. "YOU ARE A DISGRACE!" I ran out and slammed the door on my way out, causing the window on my left to shake a tiny bit. I sat on the front steps of a home I used to be able to call mine and buried my head into my knees.

What am I supposed to do now? I'm just 17, and now I'm homeless. Isn't this just perfect. I picked myself up and stared aimlessly walking the streets, otherwise known as my new home.

I walked past a newspaper that was left by someone who finished it. I picked it up and looked at the date. July, 11th, 1962. I flipped through a few pages in the paper before setting it down. I didn't know what to do, and to tell the truth, it was getting pretty late. I didn't know where to go, where'd I'd sleep or how to get anywhere from here.

I looked at the paper and its headline about a rising band right here in Liverpool. The place they play wasn't that far from where I was at, in fact, it used to one of my favorite places to go. That was until the regulars figured out my sexual orientation and attacked me.

It's a cruel world out there.

I mean, what's their problem if I like girls over guys? I mean, doesn't that just leave more guy for themselves?

When I got to the door, I debated whether or not I should really go in or not. Hopefully no one recognizes me. I walked in and the music hit my ear, and I knew I was in the right place.

I got the rockin' pneumonia,

I need a shot of rhythm and blues

I think I'm rollin' arthritis

sittin' down by the rhythm review

Roll over Beethoven rockin' in two by two

The sound of Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven" filled the air. I looked to the stage and saw four guys on the stage playing their instruments, looking like they were having a good time. I stood by one of the stone pillars and watched them play, and I could see why they were a rising band. They were brilliant!
