Chapter 2:

Kayla's POV

It's been two weeks since the accident. I got released from the hospital two days ago, but it feels like i'm still a patient because I never leave. There was still no sign of any movement from Harry, but I still stayed with him everyday.

I talk to him, and pretended he is awake and not laying in a hospital bed completely unaware of anything going on around him.

I never left the hospital. As soon as I was released, I went straight to Harry's room and stayed with him. The only time I left was to get clothes and the shower. The rest of my time was spent at the hospital.

I wish Harry would just wake up. I missed seeing his smile, and his eyes light up when he saw my face. I missed him.

I was sat beside his hospital bed when the nurse came in for his usual check up.

"How are you doing Kayla?" She asked looking over at me. We were sort of on a first-name basis now, since I had practically lived at the hospital for the past two weeks.

"I'm... managing." I admitted.

She looked at me, raising her eyebrows. "You know, it isn't good for you to be here so much." She said, giving me a look of disapproval.

"Everytime I leave, even for just five minutes, I feel like I could miss him waking up." I replied.

"I understand." She stated, starting to walk out the door before she stopped abruptly and turned around.

"You know... I think you should know that he is showing signs of improvement." She said, walking towards me.

"He is?" I asked. I could feel my eyes starting to become wet.

"Yes. His body is healing perfectly and his bones and bruises are starting to heal." She smiled at me.

"Then why hasn't he woken yet?" I asked, a bit confused.

"You see," She said walking towards his monitors, pointing at something. "This shows the amount of brain activity going on in his head." She continued. "The normal brain activity is around 70-80, but see? Harry's is down around 40-50." She said, still mointing at the monitor.

"So, its his brain thats keeping him asleep?" I asked. I was still a bit confused, but was starting to catch on to what she was saying.

"Yes." She replied before continuing. "However, like I said, he is showing signs of improvement." She said looking a bit happier than before. "When they brought him in here his brain activity was down in the 30s, so there has been much improvement since he's stayed here." She finished smiling at me.

"Thank you." I spoke. She walked out the room once again, leaving me alone with Harry.

I just sat, in that room for close to 5 hours squeezing Harry's hand and talking to him, and praying that he would wake up. But, to no avail.

It was getting close to 10 o'clock pm. I was exhausted and was about to go to bed when I decided I would call the boys and tell them the somewhat good news.

The boys had decided it would be best to leave for tour, as we were supposed to be leaving the day of the accident.

They felt so badly that they had to leave, but at the same time they didn't want to hurt the fans by postponing the tour any longer. Not to mention management were pushing the to just leave.

They called about twice a week to check in on us and see how we are doing. I loved talking to them, hearing their voices. They were the only people I ever felt comfortable around, besides Harry.

"Hello?" Louis' voice sounded through the phone speaker.

"Hey Lou." I said, probably sounding more tired than anything.

"Whats going on? Is everything okay?" He asked, sounding worried.

"Yeah, everything is fine. I was just calling to let you guys know that the nurse came by today and told me that she was seeing some significant signs of improvement in Harry." I said, trying to sound happy. I was happy about the news, its just without Harry around I feel like there is no happiness in my life.

"Well that's great!" He said. He also sounded as though he was trying to sound excited but really just wanted his best friend to wake up.

"I miss you guys." I admitted. It was true. I missed them almost as much as I missed Harry, even though I was right with him.

"We miss you too love." His voice sounded slightly shaky. I couldn't tell if he was trying to fight back tears or if he was nervous about something.

"Lou, are you okay?" I was starting to get a bit concerned.

"Are you sure you don't want to come with us on tour? I know Harry is there, but I think it would be good for you. Ya know, to get away. You need to be with real, awake humans." He said trying to sound convincing.

Louis and the other boys had tried to convince me before they left, to come with them. But I refused. There was no way I was going to leave Harry here, alone, lifeless. I wanted to be the first person he saw when he woke up.

"Louis, you know I can't." I replied trying to fight back the tears. As much as I wanted to go be with the boys instead of the lifeless body of my boyfriend, I couldn't.

"I know." He sighed. "I love you."

"I love you too, Louis." I responded before hanging up the phone.

I walked back into the room and sat on my bed-type thing crying lightly into my hands. I needed my Harry back. He needed to wake up.
