After yesterday's class, you secretly can't stop thinking about Charlie. You really thought he would already ask you for the Christmas Ball, you struggle to admit you've been caught that easily. Anyway, the next class in a few days, you don't know if you two will meet again beforehand and you try to convince yourself to be patient but... end up looking for him in corridors.
One night you can't sleep, can't study, your cat doesn't want you either and you begin to feel tired waiting for something to happen. You decide to take a walk outside. Leaving your dorm, you take the stairs and see all the paintings asleep. The castle is incredibly silent, no ghost, Peeves, Filch, no one. This place usually so warm and welcoming is now becoming somewhat daunting as you walk in a deadly silence.
You reach an exit, cast Lumos and breathe in the fresh outside air. The wind blows against your face as you walk towards the bridge. You seat and take a look at the moon shining, reflecting on the water, you hear the leaves in the wind, smell a freshly cut grass and a salty breeze coming from the lake. Contrasting the lifeless inside, being outside actually soothes you and you already feel better. You stay there long minutes, contemplating your environment.
At some point, tiredness comes at you and you decide to head back to the castle, but at the very same moment, you hear someone coming. It's already pretty late and you fear seeing Filch or even worse, Mrs. Norris.
You hide behind a column, grab your wand and wait for the visitor to be visible. As he comes dangerously closer each second and seems impossible to recognize, you decide to surprise him and jump outside your hideout, wand ready to attack and –
"Oh" you whisper
"Oh? Now that's what I call an entrance" chuckles Charlie
"I'm sorry Charlie, I didn't know it would be you" you lower your arm and tuck your wand in your robe, "What are you doing here?"
"Would you have attacked someone else? I guess I'm in luck" he says, amused, "I'm here because I can't sleep. We play a huge match tomorrow and it's my first time as Team captain" he mutters.
He puts his hair back and grins, "What about you?"
His ruby hair was loose and long enough to fall on his neck. You blink looking at him. Although he does nothing to be like that, he is a truly alluring man.
"I-I couldn't sleep either" you softly confide
He smiles.
You both take a look at the landscape, the breeze seems warmer and softer. You stay there a few minutes, even though you two are not talking, you never felt closer to him.
Your hands are only a few centimeters from his and he brings new feelings into you. You're genuinely enthusiastic and at the same time you feel safe, like home.
He looks at you, "Are you coming to see our Quidditch match tomorrow?" he hesitates, "I'd be happy to see you" he adds in a grin
You were obviously going, all the school was. Tomorrow's match is the biggest of the season and you wouldn't miss it, especially now that he asked you.
You brighten and deliver a delighted "Of course!".
He seems pleased hearing your answer, he takes your hand tenderly and start walking back to the school, pulling you softly with him. "We better sleep or my team will kill me!" he adds in a chuckle.
On your way back, you see a few paintings waking up. As you two try to be as silent as can be, they glance at you with collusion and you think you even see one blinking. He keeps holding your hand until the very last minute and arriving in front of your dorm, he whispers "See you tomorrow (Y/N)" in your ear and smirks, before leaving discreetly.
That night, you sleep like a rock.
You sleep so well you forget to wake up, causing you to run late for breakfast. Arriving in the Great Hall, the excitement is on all faces and everyone talks about the match going to happen. You catch a sight of Charlie with his Gryffindor Team. He looks focused and determined and you like seeing him such.
You eat, chat with your friends and begin to feel the thrill of the game growing inside you. You're excited. The Slytherin Team look deadly serious and you know it is going to be epic.
You come back to your dorm, change into a nice (whatever piece of clothing you like) and braid your hair. Your friends are waiting for you in the common room, they compliment your look and your little group start heading towards the Quidditch pitch.
Walking on the grass, you remember last night and enter cheerfully the stadium seating area. Gradually, the whole school arrive and a feeling of exhilaration reigns in the area. The teachers arrive and finally Madam Hooch enters the pitch. You hear the Quidditch commentator heating up the stage and announcing the team Slytherin, followed closely by the Gryffindor one. You take a glimpse at Charlie, looking fierce like never on his broom, and your heart start beating faster.
The game begins and both teams show different tactics. You see one or two Double Eight Loops, a few Finbourgh Flicks and an incredible Dionysus Dive from a Slytherin Chaser. The Gryffindor team is hardly winning when a Bludger is thrown onto Charlie, who almost fall. He looks hurt but keep playing with difficulty. Disadvantaged, Gryffindors play weaker and end up losing against a persistent Slytherin team.
In the end of the game, you run to check on Charlie and find him already asleep in Hogwarts' sanatorium. Pomfresh comforts you, he's going to get well soon, he just needs some rest.
You look at him, peacefully asleep and definitively cute. You run a hand through his hair and stay with him a few hours.
During the day, you meet Bill Weasley, student in its last year, Percy, and young Fred and George coming to check on their brother. They are all lovely with you and you start to understand where Charlie's warmth come from.
The short night you had starts to feel like a long time ago and all these emotions made you truly sleepy as well. You slowly fall asleep by Charlie's side, noticing his smell of clean laundry and cocoa.
You wake up with a jolt an hour later. Charlie is smiling, "Hello there" he chuckles.
You two discuss today's game, he looks fixed and does feel much better now. You just noticed he took your hand while you were asleep, you quietly smile and take him to the Great Hall, today was a long day.
You eat with him, you two get along really well. You talk all dinner long and forget about the time. When the Hall gets almost empty, you realize you two should get going. Before leaving you, he slowly bends to your face, he's so close you feel his breath on your skin, and gives you a soft kiss on the cheek, "Thank you for all you've done today". He leaves and you enter your dorm, heart beating faster than ever.
