The next day, Hagrid sends you an owl to help him again. The animal seems frightened and you guess Fang probably chased it, again. You pet the poor creature and decide to bring it back the Owlery.
On your way, you meet Percy Weasley. He greets you politely and asks if you had seen his two bigger brothers, Bill and Charlie. He was looking for them all morning, they disappeared. He did not check the Owlery and you suggest him to take a walk with you. He gladly accepts, you step outside looking for the two brothers. The bird chirps slowly when he tries to caress it, but bit him when he came too close, making you giggle.
Percy does not look like charlie at all, apart from the hair and something in his smile. He is tall and skinny, stands straight. Although he speaks formally, you sense a certain friendliness in his tone. Probably a Weasley thing. Without asking, he tells you about charlie's childhood stories; the one time he saw a dragon for the first time, tried to touch it and ended up screaming and running everywhere, his hair burning.
It didn't discourahe him, he always has been resilient and devoted. As Percy goes on, you can't resist but smile, imagining Charlie in such situation.
You arrive to an empty Owlery, only a few birds sleeping populate the room. He sighs in exasperation, mumbling how they are always up to something stupid.
"I'm sorry Percy, they're not here either" you say, letting the small owl fly to its bird friends. "I'm going to Hagrid's, do you want to to walk with me?" you suggest, sensing him concerned.
"Yes, let's go" Percy says, already walking outside.
You follow him, climbing down the steep staircase and quickly you hear some fuss outside. Arriving to the Castle grounds, a few students are watching the scene from the Quidditch training pitch. You and Percy walk closer and to your surprise, you see a furious Professor McGonagall holding the two Weasley brothers by their shirt, like children who did something stupid. As they walk from to forest to the school, you notice their clothes are thorn up and they seem injured. Percy appears to be reassured, he tells you they will certainly have a significant detention.
You're now worried seeing Charlie that often in a poor condition and wonder what could have happened to them, but mostly what could have they done, coming from the Forbidden forest.
Percy notices your expression, he chuckles "Don't worry. I have seen them do crazy stupid things, but they will always look after the other". As he tries to reassure you, he walks back to the castle "Nice talking with you!" he screams already far.
You take a last glimpse at them before they enter the building. You're confused, think a moment. He asked you out tonight, he will probably tell you an insane story, and you honestly can't wait for it.
Arriving at Hagrid's hut, you find the Key Keeper exhilarated. He prepares you a tee and does a thousand of other things, ordering and disordering the small room. On the table, you notice a pouch full of yellow beads. The close fire is offering a warm and mystical light through their vivid skin and you observe their dancing shadows, fascinated. For a minute you stay enchanted by their dance and forget everything around.
Suddenly, Hagrid takes back the bag and hides it quickly in a corner. "Ye haven't seen anything alright (Y/N)?" he asks with precipitation, "These are a secret, Dumbledore told me so". As he tries to act casual, you see him sweating, perambulating, constantly checking the corner where he hid the little pouch seconds earlier.
"People say dragon tears are the magic equivalent for muggle jewels, ye know. But these are not. Can't be a dragon in er forest" he adds. He does not seem so sure about his last statement and checks the pouch a last time, eyes sparking with excitement.
Noticing he probably told too much, he adds "I should not have said that" in a hurry. He quickly changes subject and takes you outside to work in the garden.
You help him all afternoon, and when the sun start setting, you're exhausted. The flowers are now almost ready for the Ball, gleaming and shining while the greenery is as vivid as can be. Hagrid is drained as well, he seats heavily on a trunk next to him. He breathes a few seconds and, in a wave, he lets you go.
On your way back to the Castle, you see Charlie waiting for you, as the very same place you talked the first day you met him. The same place he looked into your (Eye Color) eyes, caressed your hair, and told you how meeting you felt beyond belief.
You smile recalling this moment, and arrive at him, appreciative. He hugs you warmly, takes your bag and walks with you towards the school.
He looks terribly good tonight. Tying his hair and letting a few strands fall in front of his tanned face, he smiles fiercely. Like a prism, Charlie illuminates any room, he creates rainbows of warm colors and has this ability of alleviating hearts. You forget your exhaustion and listen to his story. He looks at you in the eyes and you appreciate every word he gives.
He tells you about the Forest, convinced there are a few Common Welsh Greens there. Knowing you share his passions for magical beasts, he tells you all about the tears he had found, meaning he was right, there are dragons near Hogwarts! He is really enthusiast, speaking fast with excitement. When you ask him how they had left the Forest, he slows down, mentioning the part where a Chimaera chased them.
"The moment we found the tears, it appeared and started running toward us!" he exclaims, "We got lost, ran during minutes and finally left just to meet an enraged McGonagall, waiting for us" he adds in a wry grin.
"Oh" he starts searching in his pocket, "that makes me think..." he pulls out a bracelet he had made. The piece was dazzling yet delicate, consisting of braided strings with on top of it, one of the very same mystical beads you saw earlier.
"When I saw these, I thought about you..." he slowly pulls your hand and looks at you, waiting for an approval.
The tear is gorgeous. Simple yet meaningful, and incandescent as if a thousand suns were merged into one stone. It certainly is the most special and unique present you ever received and you nod, truly touched. With caution, he ties the bracelet around your wrist and keep your hand in his.
"Thank you Charlie... It's stunning" you murmur as you admire the delicate piece on your skin.
He smiles, holds you tighter and slightly clears his throat. The dim light coming from the lanterns adds a romantic filter on the moment. A few steps before arriving to the Castle, he stops.
"Will you come to the Christmas Ball with me?" he suddenly asks.
After a few seconds and an honest grin, you answer softly "I'd be pleased to go with you".
He smiles warmly and pulls you inside the school.
