School was back in full force and with the weird direction living with Layla was taking Chelsea was the most excited. She woke up and went to the bathroom. When she came back to her room she was deciding what to wear when she noticed she never cut off her alarm. She walked over to her phone and seen that is 11:24a and she had missed her first class and half of her second. She threw on a t shirt , some jeans and sandals and flew out of the door. On the way to school she checked her alarms , It was set to 7:30pm instead of AM. She tossed her phone in the passenger seat and tried not to break the speed limit by too much to at least catch the last of her second of 4 classes. She arrived at 12:10 , checked in with the registerer and ran to her second class. She quietly opened the door and slid into a chair in the back of the room . "And thats why they call it decaying - Chelsea Glenn , we are so glad you could make the last 20 minutes of class - it means alot. Get the notes from somone because I dont print them out." Professer Yardster stated , then continued with the class. She rolled her eyes and leaned over to the girl next to her who was more than happy to let her copy them during the lunch period in the library. "Thanks" she whispered to her and slid them into her bag. The bell rang and it was time for their 45 minute lunch break , Chelsea headed to the library instead. She put the notes into the copier and made them that way , much easier. She then headed to the lunch room to grab a sandwich and some chips. She sat outside on a bench and ate her lunch , studying over the notes she missed. She'd have to get with someone from her first class to get those notes , in the back of her head she was wondering why Layla didn't wake her up. She sent her a text. Layla replied almost immediately.

"you grown just like I am - I got up."

"Why you acting like a bitch all of a sudden?"

"I been a bitch - remember?"

"What ?"

Layla never texted back. Chelsea had no clue what she was talking about and at this point she didn't care. The bell rang for the end of lunch and Chelsea went about the rest of her day. She got back home around 6p and kicked off her shoes as soon as she came through the door. She noticed Layla wasn't home , which she was a bit happy about . The weird and confusing drama between the two the past week was getting to be a bit too much . Chelsea was horrible with drama. She headed up to take a shower , threw on her silk robe she kept hanging behind the bathroom door and tied her hair up into a bun. Her phone rang , it was her brother , "hey mike."

"Hey sis , how you holding up ? Good ? School started back right ?"

"I'm good , and yes it started and I showed up 3 hours late. Set my damn alarm to pm instead of am." he laughed , "damn girl , Layla leaves before you ?"

"No , thats the crazy thing , she leaves after me."

"Damn why she aint wake you up."

"Man I dont fucking know , shits been weird with her lately . I might go stay at mom's until she cools off , shit maybe for good."

"What ? Whats going on with you two ? something you just dont want to talk about ?"

"Mike I really don't know , she's just been acting weird since that day we went to the beach and her brother was on our porch."

"Yall will work through it . Hey , I'm on a project , I just called to check up on you. I'll talk to you later , love you sis."

"Love you too mike , be careful out there."

"always am" She hung up the phone then sat down on the counter. She looked out the window and still no sign of Layla. She locked all the locks on the front door and went upstairs , she stared at Layla's room. Everything in her told her to leave it alone , but so bad she wanted to go inside. She twisted the doorknob and was quickly let down when she felt it wouldnt turn - locked. "fuck" she said to herself, she backed up , looked around the floor for a spare key. She looked at the plant that sat at at the end of the hallway on a table. She lifted it up and seen what she was looking for - a silver key. She grabbed it and slid it into her robe pocket , as she turned around and was making her way to open Layla's door Layla was coming up the last step. "Hey" she said walking to her room , "what are you doing ?"

"The uh- the plant needed to be watered."

"Oh" Layla said as she twisted a key from her keychain into her door and closed it behind her. Chelsea had been in Laylas room plenty of times and never seen a lock on the other side , so where did she deem it was necessary for one now ? Chelsea thought to slip the key back under the plant , but she kept it in her pocket and went in her room . She placed in the back pocket of some jeans she could no longer fit and shoved them in the back of her closet. Another day.

Friday , school was ending and Layla was asking Chelsea her plans . "Homework and studying. Probably stay my moms for the weekend."

"Thats crazy I was gonna go to my dads" they both chuckled , "Well I'm heading there straight from school so I'll see you next week" Layla said before hanging up.

"Bye" Chelsea headed to the house , Layla telling her she wasnt going to be there all weekend was exactly what she wanted to hear. As soon as she got home and locked the door she headed up to Layla's room , tried the door and it was locked. She went to her closet and dug out the jeans where she hid the key. She grabbed it and went back to the door. She slid it in and turned it , then turned the knob. Layla's room was spotless. First thing Chelsea did was check around her bed , underneath , felt under the mattress. She didnt even know what she was looking for , but she was searching. She flung open the closet doors, moved things around in her drawers. She still came up empty handed. She sat on the bed , then looked over at the desk that sat in the corner of the room and walked over to it . She went to open the drawer but it was locked , "for christs sake" she said to herself. "Looking for something?" Layla said as she seen Chelsea pulling at hte desk drawers. Chelsea jumped as she turned around , speechless , at this point what could she say ? "I uh - I was uhm"

"Chelsea , save your bullshit." Layla walked in and sat down on the bed , "What are you looking for ? and be honest, really aint got no choice at this point anyways." Chelsea took a deep breath , "I dont even know Layla. You've just been acting so weird lately , I needed to know why" Layla laughed . "I've been acting weird ?" she repeated in a question form. "yes Layla and stop acting like you aint been acting different with me. For instance , how you was supposed to be heading straight to your dad's - what are you doing here?"

"I just so happen to live here and had I not came who knows what you would of been into in MY room going through MY shit - get out."

"What the fuck ever Layla - keep your fucked up attitude and dumb ass ways I aint gotta put up with this shit."

"She gets on my nerves , I dont even know why I moved here"

"What , who gets on your nerves ?" Chelsea asked , she watched as Layla pulled a phone from her back pocket , her  phone. "what the-" Layla interupted her , "To fat ass Yolanda : We been friends for so long and its rent free , why not move in ? Fat ass Yolanda : That ho gone have niggas all up and throughout there. she just need somebody there when she aint got dick. To fat ass Yolanda : Girl Imma have my own space she can whore out all she want, when she catch something she just better stay out my room." Layla looked over at Chelsea who looked embarassed and ashamed . "Lay-"

"This wasnt even the only conversation about me - these texts go back months , with multiple people , all the bitches you go to school with . We been friends 10 fucking years - MORE and you talk about me like I'm some fucking dog."

"Layla , I dont even have an excuse." She threw the phone across the room at Chelsea's feet. "Take it . get out of my room." Chelsea exited the room , leaving the key on the dresser that sat next to the door. She went to her room , packed 3 bags and went to her mom's house. She had decieved her best friend , there was no going back.
