"Fuck niggas," Peach said, taking a big spoon of ice cream in her mouth. Her and Peach had came over to comfort me after I explained to them the whole Elijah situation. I had been calling and texting him for weeks but he hadn't responded, sending me into a depression. I missed him like crazy.
"You ain't said it better," Shay agreed as they clinged spoons together.
"You know, if you asked me, Av," Peach continued. "I would just forget about Elijah altogether."
I nodded. "Yeah, I should, right?"
"Hell yeah," Peach said. "I got over Zeke and look at me now. I'm free as a bird!"
Shay laughed. "Ava, don't listen to her grumpy, lonely ass."
"But she's right, Shay. Elijah hasn't even called me since the day I left his place. Why should I keep holding on if he doesn't care about me?"
"Girl, he's mad. And not to be rude or nothing but he should be."
I raised an eyebrow up at her in confusion. "Excuse me?"
"Av, he loves you. I heard him talking to you when you forgot to hang up on us that day on the phone. Girl, he's Justice best friend, big deal, you know? Justice will get mad but he'll get over it. He's your brother, he has to love you regardless. You loved Eli since we were younger and now he loves you too, girl. Would you rather sit and sulk over what you coulda had for the rest of your life or go get ya man and be happy?"
I thought about her question, realizing what she said made sense.
"I want him back, Shay," I sighed.
"Then tell Justice," Shayla said, seriously.
...
I walked up to Justice's apartment and took a deep breath. I was shaking, scared out of my mind. But Shayla was right. I wanted to be with Elijah and the only way to get him was to tell Justice.
Before I could knock on Justice's door, it opened and Elijah was walking out. Once he saw me, he stared at me for a little while but shook his head, brushing past me.
I watched him walk to the elevator, not looking back at me once. It hurt like hell on the inside but I walked into Justice's apartment, maintaining my composure on the outside.
"Ava! Wassup?" Justice asked, putting flour covered chicken in a pot of popping oil. "I was just making dinner. But don't expect none though, I only bought three pieces of chicken."
He laughed, drying his hands and leaving the chicken to fry. I half smiled, sitting in his living room.
"What you doing here?" He asked, joining me.
"I came to talk to you." I cleared my throat, picking off nothing in particular on my jeans, nervously.
"Mhmm," He said, motioning for me to continue.
"Look, Justice, I really don't know how to say this but...I'm in love with Elijah."
He chuckled. "I already knew that. What you think I ain't know you was crushing on him since you was younger?"
I shook my head. "No, its not just that. He loves me too."
He raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything, allowing me to continue.
"While you away, we became closer and...I don't know we just fell for each other. And he told me and all his friends that he loved me and that he wanted to be with me."
He nodded, not showing any clear expression. "So what happened?"
"I wouldn't tell you the truth and so he got mad and now we're over," I sighed looking down. "He won't talk to me now."
