Seventeen-year-old Lavender Rose came from Checotah, Oklahoma, and she lived with her parents, Violet and Adam. They lived in Malibu, California. Violet and Adam named their daughter "Lavender" because of her purple eyes, and the name fit her very well because she loved the color purple.
Lavender had great friends: Harvard Johnson, Paisley Granger, and Patsy Byrnes. Lavender didn't know what she'd ever do without her friends—and they didn't know what they'd do without her. That's why when they recently graduated from high school, they chose to go to college together.
It was after the quartet's graduation day, and Harvard, Paisley, and Patsy were going to Lavender's house to see her. Harvard even had a little something special for Lavender—he was carrying a little package that was wrapped with light purple wrapping paper and a darker purple bow.
"What exactly did you get for Lavender, Harvard?" Patsy asked.
"You'll just have to wait and see," Harvard smiled.
The trio made it to Lavender's house, and Adam said, "Hello there."
"Hi, Mr. Rose," Paisley waved. "Is Lavender in?"
"Upstairs clearing out her room," Adam replied.
Harvard, Patsy, and Paisley went upstairs to Lavender's room, where she had two boxes. Lavender was scribbling on a piece of paper with colored pens and throwing them in the box labeled "Trash".
"Hey, Lavender," Harvard waved.
"Hey, guys," Lavender smiled.
"What are you doing?" Patsy asked.
"It's about time I cleaned out my room," Lavender replied. "I'm throwing out the possessions in bad condition, and whatever is in good condition but unwanted will be donated."
"Good enough," Harvard smiled.
"So what have you got there, Harvard?" Lavender asked.
"Just a little graduation gift," Harvard blushed, handing Lavender the packaged.
"Gosh, thanks," Lavender smiled. She took out a package wrapped in dark green paper and a lighter green bow. "I got you something, too."
Lavender handed Harvard the green wrapped package. Harvard removed the ribbon and bow to find a little black box, inside which was a gold watch.
"Wow, it's beautiful, Lavender—thank you," Harvard smiled.
"Now you open your gift from Harvard, Lavender," Paisley urged.
Lavender removed the ribbon and paper to find a little brown box, inside which was a gold locket with amethyst gems around it. It had "Happy Graduation, Lavender" engraved on it. "Wow, Harvard, thank you," she gasped, taking the locket out of the box.
Patsy and Paisley loved the beautiful locket. Lavender saw that engraved on the backside of the pendant was "Love, Harvard". Lavender was touched by this. She opened the locket to find not one but...
"Four pictures?" Lavender gasped.
"That's right," Harvard smiled.
Inside the locket were pictures of Lavender, Harvard, Paisley, and Patsy from their high school graduation.
"This is beautiful—I've gotta show Momma and Daddy," Lavender smiled.
Lavender, Harvard, and Patsy left the room and went downstairs. Paisley was about to downstairs with them when she saw something on Lavender's bed. It was Lavender's diary—it was purple and said "Diary" on the front cover. Paisley looked at the diary, and she couldn't resist looking inside it. Paisley picked up the diary and flipped through the pages until she got to the very last page. Paisley read the last paragraph of the entry, which appeared to be incomplete—and she was shocked at what she was reading.
Suddenly, Patsy's voice rang out, "Paisley, what are you doing in here?"
Paisley put Lavender's diary down and said, "Just looking at Lavender's stuff."
"Well, okay," Patsy said.
Patsy and Paisley went downstairs, where Harvard and Lavender were with her parents, showing them the locket.
"It's beautiful, Harvard," Violet smiled.
"You picked the right gift for our little girl," Adam smiled.
"Thank you," Harvard smiled back. He put the locket on Lavender.
"Before we know it, Harvard will be putting that ring on Lavender's finger," Violet teased.
"Oh, Momma," Lavender giggled. "Well, I'd better get back to cleaning out my room."
"You do that," Adam smiled.
As Lavender, Patsy, and Harvard went up to the former's bedroom, Paisley thought about what she read in Lavender's diary.
