Forty Nine

After we sat in a circle, everybody started doing their own thing. I laid back down when everybody started doing their own thing to go back to tanning. 

Aylin and Hoseok go for a walk together down by the water and everybody else dispersed. Kaitlyn and Kookie start walking to get us all ice cream at one of those little carts on the streets and Ariel and Namjoon go to the water to swim. Yoongi, Seokjin, Jimin, and Taehyung all go swimming too, leaving me by myself to tan.

Who knows how long after, I feel the blanket move next to me. I flip onto my stomach and look to my side, finding Taehyung looking at me and very close to my face.

"Whatcha doin'?" he asks me. 

"Tanning," I mumble, closing my eyes again. Taehyung pokes my cheek and I open my eyes again. 

"Wanna come swimming with us?" he asks me when my eyes are open.

I sigh and sit up on my elbows. "Do I have to?" I ask and immediately regret it. I really just wanted to tan, but seeing Taehyung sad when I said that threw it all out the window. "Alright, fine." 

Taehyung cheers and helps me to my feet. I roll my eyes at him, throwing my sunglasses back on the blanket right before he has the chance to grab my arm and pull me to the water.

We swim for a little while and eventually Kaitlyn and Kookie come back with ice cream. We all get out of the water and dry off, going back to sitting on the blanket and eating it. 

While we're talking, I notice Kookie looking at Kaitlyn. He sees me watching him and I give a slight nod at Kaitlyn and one to him trying to tell him to go for it and tell her. He nods back and visibly takes a deep breath.

"So I said--"

"Kaitlyn?" Kookie says, cutting Seokjin off mid-sentence.

"Excuse me, but I was speaking," Seokjin says, almost glaring at Kook. Kookie gives an apologetic smile and turns back to Kaitlyn.

"I know this is probably super random," he starts, shaking his head at himself, "but I really have to tell you this. I know we met online and this is the first time we've actually seen each other, but I really like you. I don't really know how to say it, so I'm just going to word vomit until you stop me.

"Kaitlyn, you're the sassiest and sweetest person all at the same time. I love being around you. I love your personality and I love everything about you. You can be the sassiest person on earth and still have my heart. You can be the sweetest person on earth and you'll still make my heart melt. The way you interact with all my friends is so amazing because you actually care about them and they actually care about you, just not as much as me. I knew I liked you from the beginning and I even had to ask Estrella for advice. I really, really like you and I truly hope you like me too."

A moment passes and Kaitlyn's eyes don't move from Kookie's.

"I thought you were going to keep going until I stopped you," she says with a smirk. Kookie rolls his eyes and smiles at Kaitlyn.

"I would have, but I would have said something stupid if I kept going," he says with a smile. "Kaitlyn... Would you be my girlfriend?"

Kaitlyn stays silent for a minute, torturing Kook on purpose. His eyes start to widen and it's obvious he's worried for her response. 

I swear Kaitlyn stays quiet for another two minutes before I full force punch her arm.

"Owie," she whines, pouting and rubbing her arm. I jerk my head to Kookie and she rolls her eyes. "Yes, Kookie. I do want to be your girlfriend."

They both smile at each other for a while and then Kaitlyn tackles Kookie when he least expects it. He starts laughing immediately with Kaitlyn and they just lay together on the blanket for a while before sitting back up and sitting next to each other, smiles never fading.
