As I walk down the halls, I wave to my friends and the people I know. This month has been building with excitement as my sixteenth birthday starts to approach. It will be next week, but in all honesty it could not come any faster.

I will be throwing the biggest party the school has ever seen. All funded by my parents, of course. Ever since I found out I was adopted, my parents have been trying to do everything to make me happy. It doesn't hurt that I am the most popular guy in school either. I mean handsome and rich are just a few of my good qualities.

I see my friend, James, at his locker and walk up to him.

"Hey, man," I cannot help but smile as I begin to tell him the plan. "Next week is going to be killer! My parents got a DJ and they're going to be out for the week. The pool will be lit and the jacuzzi will be the VIP area for all the hot girls!"

"Awesome!" He grins in return. "And what about Megan?" Megan is one of the hottest girls in school. She and I dated once but ended up breaking up because she claimed i was too much of a flirt. James on the other hand has had a huge crush on her ever since he transferred to Anderson High last year.

"She'll be there, and don't worry, I'll be your wing man. You will definitely be getting a date with her by the end of the party."

"Great!" His face changes a little, and I know he is going to ask me a question. "So, Aiden, what would you like for your birthday? I was thinking of getting you that new G-box game, Ripper, but I want to make sure to get you something you don't already have."

"James, how many times do I have to tell you not to get me anything? My parents already got me that game the second it was released. Plus the party is supposed to be fun. I don't want to be opening gifts and stuff in front of everyone. It's something only kids would do." I've always hated opening presents. It made me feel weird, especially when someone got me something I already had or didn't want. I've never been good at feigning emotions. I have always excelled at sports though. Which is why I'm captain of the football team.

"Yeah I know you said that but it feels wrong not getting you anything because you got me a gift for my birthday two months ago."

"It's fine, dude. If you really want to get me something, help me get that state trophy."

"Yeah. Yeah. It's always go for the gold for you isn't it?"

"You know it." I laugh as we turn and walk to class talking about the weeks to follow.

As school lets out, I head to practice. Coach will be ready to put the team through the ringer and if I'm late again he will have all of us do another hundred push up at the end of practice. I make it to the field with a few minutes to spare and Coach is nowhere to be seen. I start stretching and watch the cheerleaders as they warm up as well. In the bleachers I notice a girl sitting with a book. I've never noticed her before and for some reason I feel as though I should go say hello.

As I approach her, I notice that she is drawing in her book. She looks intense and focused. She only looks up to me when I'm practically hovering over her. She sits up straight with emotionless face and does not say a word as she stares at me.

"Hello." I say as I try to start a dialogue with this girl. She is clearly a student here because she wears the uniform. I look at her drawing that is clearly a very elegant drawing of a person that looks like her. A sister maybe, but younger. "That looks amazing!" I say in awe.

She closed her Sketchbook and remains silent.

"I'm Aiden." I extend my hand to shake hers. She looks at my hand but does not move or speak. I take my hand back and look awkwardly around trying to think of something else to say.

"Are you new?" I inquire in attempt to try and save this dying conversation, but she remains silent and stares at me. Her eyes are this crystal blue that can hypnotize you. Her hair is brown and long. She is pretty, but by the way she presents herself it is easy to overlook her. I don't know what else to say to her. I feel awkward standing there like an idiot. I'm sure she's been at the school just as long as I have and yet I have never noticed her before. "I'm having a party next week if you want to come. It's for my birthday. Hang on." I run to the bench and find a marker and some paper. I write down the info and run back to her. I hand her the paper and hear Coach's whistle scream on the field. I look at the field and then back at her.

"I hope you can make it." I say while heading to the field. In all honesty I do hope she comes but I don't think she will.
