When people look at me

When people look at me,

They look at me with pity,

Blinded by what they see,

They see the wheelchair,

They don't see me

When people look at me,

They point and laugh,

They call me names,

They play these games,

And point out that I'll never be the same

When people look at me,

They think I have no brain,

They assume because of the chair,

That part of me just isn't there

When people look at me,

I want them to see,

Who I am,

I want them to see...the real me

When people look at me,

I want them to see,

The funny girl who always wants to please,

The clever girl who forever wants to read,

When people look at me

I want them to see,

The music chick inside of me,

The theatre geek who thinks she's chic

When people look at me,

I want them to know,

I care about friends and family,

I don't put on a show

When people look at me,

I wish they knew,

Everything that I've been through,

I've had to grow an extra layer of skin,

To protect the fragile girl within...
