The way you met Jonah Marais was definitely out of the ordinary. In your freshman year of high school, you happened to be at the mall with a couple of your friends.

You were walking around stopping in a few stores when you got into a slight argument. To get to the second floor which way was faster, stairs, escalator, or elevator.

You had argued elevator while the rest of your friends chose different sides. You decided to test the theory with a little race.

You headed towards the elevator and got in just as your friends started up the escalator and stairs. As the door shut you noticed there was one other person in the elevator with you.

He looked to be about your age probably a bit older. He was tall with sparkling green eyes and very very cute. You were about halfway to the second floor when the elevator stopped.

"What's going on?" You asked.

"I think it stopped working." He responded.

"What?!?" You exclaim.

"Don't freak out it'll be okay."

Suddenly the elevator drops a bit and you feel your heart start to race. Your breathing began to pick up and you knew you were going to have a panic attack.

"Hey woah come here." He says taking your hand and pulling you towards him.

"Look at me."

You lift your head to meet his bright green eyes. "Follow the pattern. In through your mouth, out through your nose. Focus on me." He says calmly.

You stare up at the mysterious boy and slowly start your breathing exercise. After a few minutes you've calmed down significantly and he smiles at you.

"I'm Jonah." He says finally.

"(Y/N)."

You both end up sitting on the elevator floor while you wait for someone to come get you. You texted your friends the situation and they promised to wait for you.

You and Jonah talked the entire hour you were stuck in the elevator. It helped calm your anxiety as you two talked while waiting for help.

Finally, the workers got the elevator to work again and they brought you down to the first floor. When you get out of the elevator your breathing finally returns to normal.

"So I guess we're kinda bonded for life now." You joke whole turning towards Jonah.

"Yeah I guess so." He says smiling.

"Well I have to get back to my friends but, we should hang out sometime."

After swapping phone numbers, you two went your separate ways. When you meet up back with your friends, they ask you a thousand questions but you only say one thing.

"I am never taking another elevator."

"You sure about that?"

The next time you saw Jonah, you were in target, running some errands for your family. You were wandering the aisles, sipping from your starbucks cup as you looked for what your parents asked for.

You were walking down the hair care aisle looking for hairbands. You were just about to walk away when you noticed the hair bands you were looking for.

You doubled back just to end up running straight into someone and spilling your coffee everywhere. When you looked up to apologize to the stranger, you met the familiar green eyes of Jonah.

"You know, we gotta stop meeting like this." He says smiling at you.

"I'm so sorry!" You exclaim.

"It's fine." He responds easily. "You'll just have to buy me a new top." He says with a wink.

You blush brightly causing him to smile wider at you. "I guess we're destined to see each other again."

"I guess so. How about Friday night?" He asks.

"Sounds good."

Every Friday night after that was spent with Jonah. You two were inseparable to the point where you basically lived at each other's houses on the weekends.

Over the years you two grew incredibly close. You supported him through chasing his dream of music and he supported your decision to go to college.

The night he found out he would move to LA, you two were walking around the downtown of your hometown. You were along the street after just getting out of the movies.

You were in the middle of telling him about something that happened in math when his phone rang.

"It's my manager." He says confused.

"Just answer it." You say smiling.

As he answers the phone you both come to a stop. You look up at Jonah as he listens to what his manager is saying. Suddenly he breaks out into a huge smile making your face turn into a confused one.

"Thank you!" He exclaims.

He quickly hangs up the phone and before you can ask what the call was about he picks you up into his arms and spins you around.

"I'm moving to LA! We're signed to a record label!" He yells out when he finally sets you down.

"Jonah that's amazing!" You yell before lunging forward to wrap your arms tightly around his shoulders.

He slips his arms around your waist holding you tightly to him. "I'm so proud of you." You say quietly.

So Jonah moved to LA after you both graduated high school. You stayed home to go to college, deciding that a degree is more important than moving with your best friend.

So you got a job on campus to save up money for future visits. However for now you counted on Jonah being home for Thanksgiving.

You were currently sitting in bed typing an essay that was due that night when your phone rang loudly next to you. You silenced it quickly before going back to typing.

Your phone starts to ring again after a minute and you turn your head to see who it was. When you spot Jonah's name and the dorky picture of you two at a theme park you feel yourself smiling already.

"Hello?" You say as you place your laptop next to you.

"Hey love." He responds and you can tell he's smiling on the other end. "What's up?"

"Finishing up an essay."

"Sounds fun." He responds sarcastically.

"Tons. What's up with you?"

"Nothing much. Just missing you."

You lay down on your bed as he continues to talk.

"I have some bad news."

You could feel your face fall and you instantly notice the change in the tone of his voice.

"I can't make it home for thanksgiving."

"What?" You ask sitting back up in bed. Now you had to wait even longer to see him again.

"We're trying our best to get this new EP out as soon as possible and jingle ball rehearsals are soon. We couldn't find the time for a flight home and then back." He explains.

You two talk for a bit longer before eventually hanging up the phone. You lay back down on your bed as you end the phone call. You sigh quietly to yourself and run a hand through your hair.

There was always Christmas.

"Jonah won't be able to make it home for thanksgiving."

Yours and Jonah's family still had dinner together every Sunday night. Throughout the years of yours and Jonah's friendship, your parents also grew close considering how much you and Jonah hung out.

"Yeah he called me the other night to tell me."

"I'm sorry sweetie." Your mom says reaching over to place a comforting hand on yours. "I know you miss him a lot."

"That's why you're gonna visit him in LA." Your dad chimes in.

"What?!" You exclaim.

"You have money saved up from work right?"

"Yeah." You say nodding.

"Well, we'll help with the rest of the cost for the plane ride there and back, assuming you'll stay at the house with the boys?" Your mom asks.

"Of course! Thank you!"

So about a week later when your classes had ended for the week you hopped on a plane to LA to surprise Jonah. You had gotten the rest of the boys phone numbers from Jonah during the summer and had texted Corbyn to help you surprise Jonah.

When you landed, you were practically shaking with anticipation. You missed Jonah to the point where your heart hurt thinking about it.

When you got off the plane you headed towards baggage claim where Corbyn said he would meet you. After grabbing your suitcase, you start to look for Corbyn.

"(Y/N)?" You hear from behind you.

You whip around to see a blonde haired boy standing behind you. He was about a head taller than you and he wore a wide smile on his face.

"Corbyn?" You ask.

"That's me!" He says happily. "So this is the girl Jonah has been going on about for ages now?"

"Guilty as charged."

After making sure you have all of your stuff, the two of you head to the compound as the boys called it.

"How long have you and Jonah known each other?" Corbyn asks as he drives.

"Four years."

"That's so cute." Corbyn says smiling widely.

After a little bit of a drive, you and Corbyn pull up to the house. You admire how big it is and you feel your heart start to race.

"You ready?"

Together you and Corbyn walk into the compound and Corbyn calls out to Jonah.

"Jonah! I've got a surprise for you!"

Just as you hear Jonah's footsteps come bounding down the stairs, Corbyn turns and flashes you a bright smile before moving to the side.

As soon as Jonah's feet plant on the last step, he spots you. Without a word he starts running towards you. You drop your bag and run towards him, wrapping your arms tightly around his torso.

His find their way around your shoulders and he hugs you tightly. You hold each other, rocking back and forth slightly.

"Is it really you?" He asks holding you now at arms length.

"It is indeed." You say smiling as he pulls you back into another hug.

When you let go for the second time you turn to Corbyn to see him filming the two of you. You groan loudly but all he does is smile.

"What? Y'all are cute." He defends.

"How did you get here?" Jonah asks as you turn back towards him.

"Mom and Dad bought me a plane ticket. They figured if you couldn't come home why not bring a bit of home to you."

After catching up on everything with Jonah, you're finally introduced to the guys. You all sit in the living room just talking and getting to know each other.

"You guys are the cutest couple by the way." Daniel says.

"Oh we're not-" You start but soon interrupted by Zach.

"Maybe even cuter than Corbyn and Christina."

"Hey." Corbyn retorts.

"They're cute but they're not that cute." Jack defends. "How long have you two been dating?"

"Four years." Corbyn responds.

"For fucks sakes guys, we aren't dating!" You exclaim laughing slightly, getting the rest of the band to quiet down. "I'm sorry." You apologize quickly.

"No it's okay. We just assumed because of how close you two are and how much Jonah talks about you." Daniel explains.

"Shut up Daniel." Jonah says but the blush on his face gives him away.

"So where am I staying?" You ask once it's gotten pretty late and you're exhausted.

"My room?" Jonah asks.

"Sounds good."

Together you and Jonah bid your goodnights to the boys before heading upstairs. Once you're in his room, you get changed quickly before falling onto his bed.

"Jet lag getting to you?" He asks from across the room.

"Like you wouldn't believe."

Jonah soon joins you in bed and you face each other. You don't say anything for awhile, just looking over his features as he lays next to you.

"I missed you." He says quietly.

"I missed you more."

After a wonderful thanksgiving with Jonah and the rest of the band, you head home with a promise from Jonah that he'll be home for Christmas.

About a month passed and yours and Jonah's friendship started to drift. Phone calls got shorter, texts were even less. You no longer had the promise that he would come home from Christmas.

"(Y/N)?" You Mom calls from downstairs.

You had been in your room all day. You had decided that you would curl into your covers and watch your favorite movies all day. You barely moved from your spot, except for bathroom and food breaks.

Not talking to Jonah hurt. It hurt like hell and you couldn't figure out why. He was your best friend sure, but ever since thanksgiving something had changed. You missed him more than humanly possible and you couldn't figure out why.

"Can you come down here?"

You drag yourself out of bed and stop at the top of the stairs to see where your mom was. When you don't spot her, you quickly fix your clothes, pulling your hood over your head and straightening out your leggings. You jog down the stairs and head into the kitchen.

"What's up?" You ask your mom when you spot her leaning against one of the kitchen counters.

"There's someone outside for you." She says gesturing to the front door.

You turn your head to the door and see nothing but the light snowfall that has started. You slip on a pair of shoes before walking outside onto the porch. After shutting the door behind you, you turn and spot him.

It had only been a month but he looked older to you. A beanie was pulled down over his hair, and he wore a gray sweatshirt and his typical black ripped skinny jeans.

The past month of missing Jonah and the lack of conversation between the two of you was gone. Just as you did a month ago at thanksgiving, you ran to him.

When you reached him you wrapped your arms around his neck and jumped. He caught you in his arms and hugged you back with equally as much force.

When you pulled away, everything made sense. You loved him. You loved him so much that it hurt.

"What's wrong?" Jonah asks.

"You've been best friends for years and I've been in love with you for years." You say quietly.

His face breaks into a smile so big it looked like it hurt. And then his lips were on yours. He kissed you as if your life depended on it and you knew yours did. It was slow and perfect and everything you've ever imagined since you met him.

Your lips molded together in perfect unison as snow fell around you. It was a scene straight out of a movie and you couldn't believe it was real.

"I love you."
