When I arrived at the familiar house in Alaska, Kate was out waiting for Junior and I. As soon as I stepped out of my car I was engulfed into a hug from her. "Well, hello!" I giggled, returning the tight hug.

"I know you've been gone a short while but man it was weird not having you here like usual!" she exclaimed amused.

"That's nice to know I was missed -" The wind blew in our direction, a certain scent catching my attention. It couldn't be...

"Mels?" Kate called out.

"Who was here, apart from you guys?" I asked absently, looking around frantically. It couldn't be...

"Um, the Cullens came to visit us - wait, Melanie!" Kate called back to my retreating figure but didn't follow me since Junior was still in the car. When I entered the house the rest of the coven was resting in the living room only to sit up at my entrance.

"Melanie," Carmen called to me when I ignored their presence, following the addicting scent I craved for years. The scent led to my room and without another thought I opened my door, only to freeze. There was no one in the room. No one.

I walked around, smelling where the scent was strong and found out it was strong around Junior's crib - especially Junior's blanket.

"I'm sorry, sweetie, but just like I told him, you just missed him," Carmen said from the doorway. I sighed in defeat, bowing my head to hide my tears of frustration and sadness from her. So close yet so far...again... But it was too late, she noticed my state and came to my side in a blink of an eye, encasing me in a comforting hug.

"This is never-ending," I grumbled against her shoulder, "we keep going in circles."

"But you're so close," she cooed, "don't give up yet." I merely sighed in response.

"So..." I pulled away from her. "Jasper, he was part of the Cullen coven this whole time..."

"He uses Rosalie Hale's last name to make the humans think they're twins," Carmen explained to me calmly, "we didn't find out until recently that he was your mate after all these years. We always went to them when they came to Alaska, and it was a first for them to visit us and so he smelt your presence in the house."

"So where are they now?" I asked eagerly, making my way out of the house. She followed after me.

"They went back to Forks due to a situation -"

"Great -"

"-however Jasper won't be there, he said he'll be separating from his coven for a while in search for you," she finished. I turned to her in disbelief.

"You're joking..."

"I'm afraid not, darling." she shook her head sympathetically. "The two of you are just so stubborn and impatient to wait in one spot for the other to catch up."

"So what do I do?" I complained. "He's somewhere out there trying to look for me! Does he have a phone? I can track him -"

"Melanie," Carmen spoke up through my ramble. "Calm down." I took a deep breath in. "Now, I know you're close to being with him, but just calm down for a moment, okay? You've travelled a long time with Junior, and bringing him onto another long trip to find Jasper might tire him out. He may be older than he looks, but he's still an infant. You have to be careful. Just rest for a bit, okay? We can contact Carlisle later on about your situation, and hopefully, he'll contact Jasper the news and he'll come back. But rest, I know you're just as tired as Junior." I bit my lip in contemplation, looking from my car to the house where Junior resided, sleeping. I was so close to finding Jasper after all these years, yet Carmen was right. I've been dragging Junior along in the long travels, it might take a toll on him. We still don't know much about the rare kind of vampires, and I didn't want to put Junior in any harm.

"You're right," I sighed dejected, walking back inside the house. "I don't want to bring harm to Junior because of my impatience and all." When we entered the house, Eleazer was on the phone talking to someone. Upon listening further, I realised it was their friend, Carlisle.

"Are you sure? She's here? Jasper's mate? I'd love to help you, I really do, but Jasper hasn't kept in touch in ages, and he also turned his phone off so he could concentrate on his search -"

"That idiot!" I cursed loudly. "How am I in love with this man?" the Denali sisters cackled at my curses, Carmen stifling her own giggles with Eleazer giving small chuckles.

"Call me as soon as you get in contact with Jasper," Eleazer told his friend. After a brief farewell, the two men hung up. I collapsed onto the nearest sofa, rubbing my face tiredly.

"Now what do we do?" I asked them.

"We wait," Eleazer replied. I frowned, dissatisfied.

"I hate waiting," I sighed. Goodness I've done enough waiting my life, haven't I?
