It was a tense atmosphere, tense and very awkward for us all. No one said anything, and stayed where they were; Jasper's coven standing from a distance, Jasper and I still on the ground. Said mate didn't mind the silence, busy crouching in front of me, on guard. I rolled my eyes at his behaviour even though it was understandable, releasing a small sigh. Overprotective fool, I couldn't help but think. Just as I thought that a small chuckle was heard from the Cullens. I looked up and saw it was the bronze-haired man that was amused, laughing quietly. Using my detecting gift, I was able to see that he could read minds. I'm just going to copy his gift...
Jasper let out a low growl of warning to the man - which I then found out to be Bella's mate, Edward. Man, this mind reading thing is useful. I glared at the back of Jasper's head, whacking him lightly. "Jasper, all he did was laugh at what I thought!" Jasper sent a small apologetic look my way.
"Darlin', it's my instincts taking control, and I'm still mad at them for hurting you," he murmured. I nodded in understanding and decided to just relax on the ground. While waiting for Bella, a sudden feeling of sadness swept over me, making me sit up and look for where the immense sadness came from only to realise it came from Jasper.
"Jasper..." I murmured, resting a hand on his shoulder. "Jasper, what's wrong?"
"I missed everything..." he replied glumly. I sent him confusion through my emotions. "I missed when you gave birth to Junior, I missed his first words, his first steps, birthdays - everything! Now he's a grown boy, does he still want to see me?" Unshed tears gathered in his eyes when he turned to talk to me, breaking my heart.
"Jasper, Junior loves you!" I assured him, cupping his face in my hands.
"Really?"
"Yes! And better yet, you didn't miss anything! He's still an infant," I revealed. His eyes widened in disbelief.
"What?" he whispered. "You mean -"
"As long as we stay together, you won't miss his first steps or anything! We can experience a family life together like we always dreamed - even your coven! I know most of them always wanted to raise a child, why not let them spoil Junior with us?"
"How - what -" Jasper was speechless, but nonetheless happy at my news, bringing me into a hug. We were torn out of our moment by a throat being cleared.
"Excuse me?" a familiar voice called out. Jasper and I looked to the side to see Bella at the entrance of the clearing, holding Junior in her arms tenderly. She made her way towards us, not once tripping. It's like Junior is some good luck charm on her; whenever she is with him she doesn't become her clumsy self. Not once have I ever seen her stumble or trip when with Junior. It was so interesting to see her with him.
I set my gaze onto Jasper who watched Bella approach, a smile crawling onto my face with excitement. "You ready to meet your son?" Jasper looked down at me with a shine in his eyes, confirming his answer. I staggered to my feet, making my way to Bella who met me halfway. I whispered a small thanks to Bella, watching her make her way to Edward only to see her trip along the way, getting caught by Edward. I couldn't help but chuckle at the human.
"I think Jasper would like to be alone with us now," I notified to Edward in my mind. We held a stare down momentarily, reading each other's thoughts. He was sorry for before, which I got over and forgave him for. He was curious about me and Junior but knew that Jasper and I would reveal everything later on. He sent me a nod afterwards, giving a small smile to me that I returned before making my way back to Jasper.
"Come on, let's give Jasper some time alone with his family," I heard the mind reader say to the coven. When I glanced back, they were all gone including Bella.
Junior started stirring in my arms, notifying me that he was waking up. "Hey, baby!" I cooed, looking down at chocolate brown eyes. Junior cooed back in reply, making me giggle at his overwhelming cuteness. A feeling of wistfulness and adoration came over me, making me glance over to Jasper's direction to see him staring at us. I motioned for him to approach, adjusting Junior so he was able to see Jasper approach us. A thoughtful look appeared on the baby's face as we watched Jasper come to us at a human pace.
"Junior," I addressed, "this is Jasper Whitlock, your father who's been looking for us." I looked to said man. "Jasper, this is Jasper Junior, our son."
I stepped closer to him, nodding down to our son. "Would you like to hold him?"
Jasper held him with such gentleness and caution, looking down at his son in awe, Junior not once tearing his gaze away from his father. This was something I always dreamed about seeing; my two boys together at last, where they should be.
"I promise you, Junior, that I will make it up to you and your mother for all the years I've been without you for the rest of my life," Jasper whispered, pressing a delicate kiss to his son's forehead. I don't really remember how long we stayed there at the clearing, but it was long enough for Junior to fall back asleep - this time in his father's arms.
"I missed you," I whispered, never taking my eyes off our son. Jasper hummed lowly in reply.
"I missed you too, so much." Jasper murmured, rocking Junior gently in his arms. "I was lost without you."
"As am I for you."
"This whole time you were in Alaska, with the Denalis," he chuckled, voice coated with disbelief.
"I know," I grumbled, "if only I wasn't paranoid and let my guard down, we would have been together ages ago."
"Don't think that," he cooed, tearing his eyes away from Junior to look into my green eyes. "You had every right to be worried for your safety and Junior's." We lapsed into silence again. "I'm just glad to have you back."
"Tell me everything," I suggested, moving to sit beside him, resting my head on his shoulder. I buried my face in his shoulder, taking a deep inhale of his scent. Goodness I've missed him so much...
"Tell me what's been happening in your life." And so he did. He told me how long he stayed with Maria, told me how Peter and Charlotte came back to grab him, told me how he and the couple searched many years for me only to separate later on, how he came across Alice who led him to the better life, to meet Bella for the first time, and then her birthday incident.
"It wasn't your fault," I told him when I sensed his guilt, "you had no control over your gift -"
"Wait, what?" he cut me off confused. "What about my gift?"
"Well, we can feel one's emotions, right?" I clarified. "Blood lust is one of those emotions that we feel. So, not only are you trying to control your own control, but you're also feeling other's blood lust as well." He didn't say anything and stared at me amazed. I tilted my head at him. "What is it?"
"I never realised -" he swallowed thickly, looking down at Junior momentarily. "This whole time it wasn't just me being weak, but I was feeling the other's blood lust?" He let out a small chuckle of disbelief. "Unbelievable; you're brilliant." Jasper nuzzled his nose with mine, smiling down at me with love. "You have no idea how much I've missed you."
