Night Wonders

Don't pretend you know me,
For I am a stranger right up until the moment you witness sleep push me away.

I spend endless tired nights with violent flames thrashing in the realm within my eyes.
One sheep, two sheep,
They roam into the fire while my desired slumber is delayed.
A game of Russian Roulette takes place each aching second I wait; pull the trigger and hope for happy thoughts.
You don't stare at the ceiling as often as I do.
I'm sure you're unaware that if you stare at it long enough, it will stare back at you too.
I think I'm going insane.
