The combined sound of wind rushing past and the continuous flapping of the bee's wings would have probably been deafening for any normal Minimoy. But even as her red hair was pulled this way and that by the ever present rush of air around them, all Selenia heard was a silence composed of both joy and sadness. All she could think about was her prince.
This was supposed to have been perfect, she thought, desperately. She had awoken on the morning of the tenth moon, and every thought, process, every movement of her body, had been filled with joy. And then Nature had intervened. Nature had decided that on that day, these two lovers, who had journeyed across the Seven Kingdoms, and against all odds had come out on top, didn't deserve to see each other. She had waited. She had prepared. She had longed for a chance to see him again. And true, she got her wish. But it hadn't been as she'd wanted. She wondered if that would ever happen. Would there ever be a tenth moon, where she and Arthur could spend a peaceful and romantic night together? She hoped so.
Her mind was partly snapped back to reality when the Bee made a sudden jolt, and realised that Beta was steering it towards a large crevice ahead, one that she knew led back to their village. She was suddenly forced to grab onto Beta as the Bee made an unexpectedly steep dive for the hole at the last second. Free air transformed into darkened dirt in an instant, and suddenly they were manoeuvring through the vaguely lit underground passage. There seemed to be no visible change for a while, but after a few minutes, she looked past Beta to see the distant glow of the gate. She felt the Bee gradually decelerating, and Beta brought it to land just outside the gate. Selenia grunted as she stepped off the Bee's back, while Beta slid down its wing. He turned back towards the bee, pulling out his knife.
"Thanks for the ride!" He said cheerfully, pressing a button on his knife. A small stick appeared from one of the many holes in the knife, with a small block of sparkling honey. The Bee stepped quickly forward, grabbing the honey with its mouthparts and shoving it inside its mouth. "Now go on, beat it!" Beta said jokingly, and the Bee spun round and flew off back the way they had come. Selenia rolled her eyes as they both approached the gate. Knockingthree times, Selenia heard the scurrying of guard feet behind the gate. There was the sound of sliding wood as the small window of the gate flew open, filled with the face of a guard. It was only open for a minute, as the guard's eyes lit up at the sight of them, and the window slid shut. Amongst the grinding sounds of the opening gate, she heard one of them shout:
"Betameche and Selenia at the door!" The gate swung inwards slowly, filling the tunnel with light, but more importantly, revealing the Minimoy village.
Making her way quickly to the base of the palace, partially ignoring the cheers and questions of her people, Selenia collapsed into the arms of her father, holding back the urge to sob."My daughter, are you alright? What happened? Where is Arthur?" He inquired, clearly concerned. She raised her head, imagining the look on her face emanated both sadness and joy. Straightening herself, and pushing back the tears that lay just beyond the protective shielding of her confidence, she explained what had happened to her father, with many of the Minimoys around listening. She told them of how Maltazard had took the vial before they could get it, and how Arthur had to grow by himself to fight him. "But where is M now?" Her father asked. Selenia turned to face the hundreds of Minimoys that had assembled around the palace.
"Our great enemy, The Evil M, once feared throughout the Seven Kingdoms, has finally been defeated!" She exclaimed, pushing all the sadness aside and filling her words with joy. A deafening cheer rose that echoed throughout the village, and Minimoys from miles around rushed to join the celebrating masses. But Selenia stepped down into the crowd, gently pushing through the jostling masses, trying to get to the centre of the chamber. After a few moments, the crowd began to notice her movement, and the volume dropped as all eyes followed her. She finally reached the centre of the chamber, and the obelisk lay beneath her. Withdrawing the Sword of Power from its sheath in her belt, she took a deep breath. She had once believed that as the princess of royal blood, the sword belonged to her. But these past few days had taught her that this was Arthur's sword. And Arthur's alone. She gazed upwards at the single beam of sunlight filtering into the chamber, and with one fluid movement, drove it firmly into the obelisk.
There was a spark of blue, as the sword wobbled in its place, before steadying. She observed the sword for maybe a few seconds, before turning and walking away without another word. If this was his sword, it would await his return.
She walked for what seemed like an hour, with no apparent destination, wandering the streets and alleyways of the village. Until, as luck would have it, she found her way to the transit hall. Her feet, legs, pretty much any part of her body felt exhausted, so she slumped down in exactly the same place she had been a mere two days ago, gazing upwards at the telescope receptacle. She imagined herself in ten moons, watching blissfully as the receptacle opened, and her prince descended from the heavens. She gave a long, saddened sigh. But as she sat there, in the same place where complete sadness had overwhelmed her, where nature had decided that Arthur couldn't see her, her voice filled with joy, and she muttered five words:
"See you soon, my Prince."
