Your POV

Fight to survive...during the battle they come alive...

I clutched the plush Totoro figure, hugging it to my chest as the screen before me bursted with colours and sound. Excitement glittered in my eyes as the forty-sixth episode premiered, the familiar characters and colorful blurs spun across the screen.

'(y/n)! What on earth is all that racket? Keep it down!'

I winced at the sharp tone and hurriedly plugged in some silver earphones into the black laptop, the sound vaporizing immediately.

'Sorry Mother!' I called back, apologizing immediately. I heard Mother give a grunt and continue yelling at some poor maid. I bit my lip. I hope Mother didn't hear that much. What would she say when she saw her 11-year-old daughter obsessing over some anime boys on a TV show who devoted everything to some spinning tops?

Nothing good, I would expect. I made sure the keep one earphone out, careful to pick up any approaching noises coming from outside the bedroom. I sighed and leaned back against the alternating black and silver and navy blue pillows, tugging the silk, dark quilt higher up my body.

What would they think about this TV show? I wondered. By they, I meant Chanel Darlington and Layla Carter and the rest of their huge group. Well, technically it was our group, but really, they're the one who controls it. But I guess I'm okay with it. They're my best friends after all.

I squeezed my eyes shut and slammed the laptop shut, earning another scolding from Mother. I know what they would say. They would hate this show. They're the type of girls that watch teenage girls series, like Pretty Little Liars and Gilmore Girls, as well as rom-coms. Anime is pretty much non-existent in their world. I gotta say, it was dead in my world as well until I watched this series. Man, it's addicting. And I absolutely love it. I was tempted to open my laptop again and re-watch the episode on Netflix.

It wasn't that difficult.

Shu's POV

I started jogging, feet planted steadily one after the other, hitting the cement then lifting up to begin the process again.  I slightly winced as a shot of pain jolted up my leg as my red sneakers got treadden on by wheels in my haste to get home quickly. S

hoot, I silently cursed in my head. I knew it was a bad idea bringing this bike with me, especially since it was low on fuel. But then how else would I have gotten to the interview? My metro card has run out, and I'm not in the mood of sprinting.

A wave of panic washed through me as my phone made a beeping sound, reminding me that it was five thirty and I still had to stop by the petrol station to pump the red vehicle up again. It was almost dark as well.

I could only see the peak of the golden sun, glinting and blinding everyone with the sharp ray of sunlight, the brightest part of the sky visible. Soon enough, small twinkling spots were dotted across the pink and blue hues of the sky. I sighed as a gush of wind caressed my face.

I wished Mother and Father were still here. Why did they have to move overseas? It was fine here, in Japan. My life was perfect when they were here. I always had a toasty room to come home to, as well as a warm meal and a wide hug. Whenever I had trouble with school work, which was almost never (not bragging or anything, it's true), Father would help me.

Then they received that blasted letter from the company they worked for, the Running Bulls or something, and they had to go overseas. Then everything went downhill from then. Instead of being rewarded with the first place prize of the National Tournament, I came out with something hideous that I wanted to hide forever.

'Shu? Hey Shu!' An overly enthusiastic voice cut through my thoughts. I blinked and glanced down to my left, where a small boy with inky blue hair was waving his hand energetically. My face broke into a grin at the sight of him.

'What...are you doing?' I asked, tilting my head, puzzled at the other's position. He smiled and ran up to me, laughing.

'I saw you on TV!' yelled Valt excitedly. 'You were amazing! Like, seriously! Your opponent was like, mega tough. You beat him with one shot, like there was nothing to it! It was classic!'

I smiled again and started walking away, his words becoming distant as I started focusing on my problems and thoughts.

'You won without breaking a sweat!' added Valt happily, catching up to me and waking me from my serious face. 'I wish I could do that. So tomorrow. Excited for the district tournament to start?'

Shit. The district tournament started tomorrow? Deep in my mind, it wasn't news to me, but it still took me by shock. It seemed like yesterday when...

'You know it,' I replied without breaking a sweat.

'Sweet!' chirped Valt. A frown gloomed over on his face and he hesistated, slightly nervous at the thought. 'I'm...starting to get nervous!'

'Could've fooled me,' I continued walking, not worried that the bluenette had stopped.

'Hey Shu,' Valt called out. 'I want to go the Nationals too! I'm actually going to beat you and take first place!'

But you also need to beat him...

'Yeah, whatever,' I muttered, still walking. 'Novice.'

I heard a cry of indignation as Valt bounced back to me.

'I started first!' yelled Valt, now besides me. 'I was into battling before you!'

'I'm not talking about who got into it first,' I said blankly, stopping outside the petrol station. I heard Valt stop again. A brief smile flickered across my face as I stopped and turned around to face the smaller one. 'See you in the finals, then?'

'Definitely.'
