[Warning] This chapter is a bit dialogue heavy.

"You don't think he hates me, right, Hiro?"

Hiro looks up from the new sketch that he's been working on. The only ever-growing bundle of crumpled papers is proof enough of how much he has wasted.

Just this morning, his older brother was nagging at him to start preparing for the showcase. Now, Tadashi is just seated on his side of the room, complaining that his best friend had just suddenly decided to give him the cold shoulder.

"Doesn't seem like it. Have you done anything that should make him hate you?"

Tapping his pencil against one of his (probably will be discarded again) sketches, Hiro takes a look again at his older brother. He has always known how to read his brother's behavior and expressions. The face Tadashi's making right now, however, is completely unreadable that Hiro actually stops to put his pencil down to face him properly.

"I don't know?" Tadashi said.

Hiro rolled his eyes at him. "O-kay," he said. "Then when did this cold shoulder thing start, at least?"

His brother laid down his bed, running a hand through his messy hair. "I think it started around the time [m/n] got sick," he finally admitted.

"And since when did [m/n] get sick?"

"A few months since we started uni."

The last statement his brother let out was barely a whisper. It was almost as if he was guilty of something and is trying to hide the possibility of him being caught red-handed.

In this case, he might as well be.

"Wha- Tadashi?!" Hiro exclaimed, suddenly oozing with the urge to hit his brother with a pillow. "Three years ago? How could-"

"I don't know, okay? It started mildly, like a common cold. He kept telling me not to worry and stay away from him so I don't catch whatever he had. Then, like around a few months, it got worse. So I took [m/n] to the hospital to get it checked, but he never told me what the result was. He hasn't, uh, we haven't had a really decent conversation since then."

This left Hiro thinking. Tadashi and [m/n] have been friends for years. Based on the stories he hears from Tadashi, the boy is actually sweet and endearing, with a knack for making snarky comments here and there. He has only ever met the [blond, brunet, redhead, etc.] once, and that was when Tadashi had shown him his lab.

"He never came when you showed me your project, huh," he realized out loud.

Hiro wasn't one for judging people without really knowing their stories. He also didn't want to get angry at him just because he started giving his brother the cold shoulder. [m/n] seems like a chill and kind person, and based on whatever he hears from Tadashi, also fun to be with.

There had to be a reason. Hiro just assumes it's probably because he hasn't reached that age yet so he can't understand why [m/n] decided to do what he did. Maybe it's the adolescent hormones making [m/n] do it.

"Jeez, I feel like a counselor now," he murmured before continuing out loud, "Have you ever tried looking at it from a different perspective?"

Thankfully, not a literal light bulb clicked in his brother's head. Looking at how his eyes had lit up with a sudden realization reminded Hiro of back in the days when he would talk non-stop about [m/n].

"That's it! Hiro, that's it!"

He's having a dream and he knows it. He remembers falling asleep to his makeshift bed in his lab. His subconscious is telling him that this is a dream, but his body felt stuck on sleep paralysis.
