My dad is a super cool dad.
A super dad who likes drinking coffee.
I want to be like him.
But without the coffee.
It was a nice, sunny day. All the other kids were outside, playing with their balls, or in the sandbox. No one liked to stay inside at such a nice day like this. The daycare was as lively as usual. One of the teachers was watching over these children play like there's so little time in the world.
One particular child was running as fast as he could around the playground. The younger kids were having quite a hard time running after him. He was a four year old, with [h/c] hair and [e/c]. He was wearing a light blue shirt, in which sweat was starting to drench.
The younger children, those who were catching up with him, started to complain. "[m/n]! Slow down!"
[m/n] laughed, but he didn't slow down. "Don't wanna."
"Come on," one of them said. "We can't catch you if you're fast!"
All of them stopped running when they saw [m/n] stop and turn to face them. Placing his hands on his hips, he made a hero pose. "That's the point. When I grow up, I'm going to be Flash, and I'm going to be a hero!" he said.
The others were amazed. They always loved it when [m/n] was around the daycare. They would hear stories of how amazing this Flash hero was, and how [m/n] knows him personally. Though the teachers doubt he actually knew Flash, they didn't want to destroy a child's dreams.
So they let [m/n] share his stories.
[m/n] knew that adults didn't believe he knew Flash personally. He didn't mind. He always told himself that he wasn't lying, so it's fine.
"[m/n], when are you going to tell us who Flash really is?" one of the kids said, after they changed out of their sweaty shirts and into fresh ones.
"I can't tell you, or I'll compromise his secret identity!" [m/n] said, laughing.
"Eh, that's too bad."
"But we want to hear your stories!"
They were all sitting around, forming a circle under the shade of one of the large trees in the daycare's garden.
[m/n] seemed to think deeply. He was squatting, arms over his knees. His eyes were scrunched, as if to make it obvious that he was trying to think. He knew that the younger children always loved it when he told stories of lots of things: their dogs, Flash, their house, Flash, skateboarding, Flash. Well, he is a fan of Flash, for several reasons altogether.
He is the superhero, so he needed to think of something. Fast.
"Aha!"
The children looked at him excitedly. "What is it, [m/n]?"
"How about I tell you something about my dad?" he asked.
Their eyes seemingly sparkled in excitement. They all nodded.
"You know, my dad is super duper awesome! Have I ever told you he likes drinking coffee?" [m/n] said. The children gasped.
"Wow, how does one drink coffee?"
"I've tasted coffee once, it was so bitter!"
[m/n] laughed along with them. For kids, drinking coffee is something adults would do. They were always told that coffee would make you grow older, or dumb, or something else. [m/n] hoped that, if he ever drank coffee when he grows up, coffee would turn him into a superhero. Or maybe someone like his dad.
