I woke up with a start and nearly yipped when I saw my paws, but I forced myself to calm down, remembering I had somehow become a dog.
I slipped out from under the wooden palette and looked around before limping slow away, focussing hard on my everypaw step; I didn't want to fall again, and definitely not out here.
Luckily I was a puppy and so I would heal fast, but I couldn't stay in the city while I waited.
I knew from books that some berries were edible, so I could eat those until I healed.
I also knew how wolves hunted..I also knew several helpful tips on how to summit, but I hoped I wouldn't need to use those tips.
I didn't want to summit to anyone;ever.
I shook my head and continued on my way carefully and slowly.
I was quite tired now and being hungry and thirsty didn't help; I was getting weak and almost collapsed several times.
I knew I needed food, water and safety so I pushed on.
I looked to the sky and I spotted storm clouds.
This would force me to stay in the city for a while longer but I would be able to rest and get a drink, and I would be able to heal a bit.
I knew I had to push on till it started raining though so I continued to make slow progress, walking through the city as people went inside.
I decided to start looking for food before the rain started and so I stopped and lowered my muzzle to the ground; testing my k9 nose.
I barked when I smelt a hot dog YES! I thought, excited.
I had to hurry though, the rain was going to start coming down any minute now and I didn't see any people eating anywhere near me.
I started limping forwards, trusting my nose to guide me.
I started slowly but I soon dared to go faster; I was getting better at limping.
Soon though I stopped, the rain had started coming down and I lost the scent.
I growled in frustration and tried to get it back desperately.
After a few failed attempts I finally got a faint scent of it.
I limped over to it, following my nose.
Soon I saw it, it was in a humans hand but that didn't stop me.
The human seems distracted and I walked over.
As soon as I got close enough I pushed with my back legs hard and opened my mouth wide, snatching it as I lept off the ground.
I fell afterwards and got up as quickly as I could and limped off.
By now the human had noticed and was getting up.
I dared to limp away even faster, only slowing down a little when I felt myself almost fall.
I spotted a trashcan near by and jumped behind it, letting myself collapse.
I watched the human pass by and when I was sure the cost was clear I limped to a nearby box and put the hot dog in before grabbing it an dragging it behind the trashcan.
I pulled the box until it fell onto its side and then I turned it so the entrance was facing a building.
It wasn't much, but no one would see inside unless they really looked and I was safe, with food; and I would get water soon. I limped into my box, curling up in the far back.
I grabbed the hot dog and started eating.
This would be my home for a while.
