SO I haven't been updating this story because I've been busy* and not much has happened, at least not much butterfly related stuff.
Actually, there was one thing. The Monarch chrysalis, the first of the season, hatched yesterday morning. I named him Coriander, Cory for short, cause he was being a spicy boy. At first I wasn't sure about his inclination toward butterfly-hood, since he seemed to not really be into flying. Oh, he could fly, he just didn't seem to feel like it. I supposed I should have named him Lazy. Until this morning, when I woke up to the unexpected sound of frantic butterfly wings on netting (it's a very distinct sound, believe it or not). So I went and got him from his cage and, behold, the butterfly flew. He only stopped once he ran into the harp, where he stayed to regain his bearings. That gave me an idea.
He was perched on two of the lower strings, just minding his own butterfly business.
I played the strings.
Chaos ensued.
So that was a new thing I learned. Butterflies aren't big on harp music, especially when it includes physical contact. It was, however, rather amusing.
Today was Coriander's release day. He was much bigger than Skip, with a wingspan of 11 cm. He took off much faster too. No time for goodbyes in the life of a butterfly, I suppose.
So, if this year is going to be at all like last year, and the years before that, I expect it'll be a while before I have any more caterpillars to take care of. If there's anything anyone would like me to write about, or if you think I should just shut up until I have more caterpillar updates, let me know in the comments. Otherwise, go on and read something more interesting until my next chapter comes out.
See ya!
