POV Marceline

I'd skipped going to meet up with Ivory after school on Monday because, I have a fucking life, but she did get my number from Don, and this was the text I'd received at two in morning today:

Ivory: Hey Marceline it's Ivory. I know it's late but, if you don't mind coming to the theater classroom after school today then that'd be cool. Also ignore whatever criticism Jasmine tries to give you. She's just jealous that she got the understudy for Esmeralda and Lapiz got the main role. Anyways see you at school.

I just stared at my phone with my eyes half open, then said to myself, "Why the fuck is she texting me at two in the goddamn morning on a school night. Even though I get a whopping six hours of sleep because I stay up until the ripe time of midnight, but still, now I'll have trouble going to sleep. Fuck." I turned off my flip phone (because we still haven't upgraded to a Black Berry phone), and rolled over on my right side to try and go back to sleep. But instead I just stared at the shadows of the trees that were having a fucking tree rave outside my window because of the wind and rain. And it had already rained a lot over the weekend, but now this happens. But I wished that I'd just woken up to Jeff texting me about how and Trevor were hitting it off. But I could see them as a thing, but as far as I know, Jeff's as straight as a dick so... that ship won't sail. But once I'd finally fallen asleep, I heard birds chirping outside my window and realized that it was like five in the goddamn morning. I groaned and put my pillow over my head and tried to fall asleep, but my window was cracked open and the birds were oddly loud for a rainy Tuesday mornin'.

So, once I heard my alarm go off, I slapped it off my night stand and I heard it hit the ground. But I felt oddly warm, warmer than being huddled under the bed sheets because of my nightmarish mind playing tricks on me at four a.m. Granddad walked into my bedroom, gave me one look, then said, "Yeah you're not going to school. You don't look so good." "I don't feel so good either," I added with a sore voice. Granddad felt my forehead, walked to my bedroom door, and said, "You've got a fever, stay home and get some rest. Also, why does Archie always knock on our door. He knocked at like five in the fucking mornin' and I was trying to sleep." "He doesn't get up at five in the fucking mornin', Granddad, he's too lazy for that," I said. "Well it was fucking one of those twins, tell 'em to stop doin' that in the mornin' please," Granddad called out as he walked downstairs to grab his jacket and keys. "I'm leavin' now, Marcy! Connor just left about an hour ago so... watch yourself today, aight?" he added as I heard him slam the front door shut. I rolled over on my right side and thought to myself, "Well, guess I'll just have to phone Ivory and tell her I'm sick."

As I reached for my phone, I'd already gotten a missed call from Ivory at 6:45 a.m. Curious, I opened my phone, hit "call" above her missed call, and waited for her to pick up, mainly because I knew that nobody had class yet because of it only being seven thirty. Once she'd picked up, Ivory asked, "Where are you?"

"Sick in bed, that's where I am."

"Oh... you can't come in today?"

"Nope, but I have a strong immune system. Maybe I can come this afternoon at three thirty?"

"Yeah that, actually might work. Also uh, Vincent was looking for you yesterday evening because you left your literature textbook in homeroom. Which I didn't know you have with Vincent but, I guess I need to wake up from my fantasy mind."

I just shrugged as I sat up and said, "It's not a bid deal, I only have lit once every other day. Plus it's AP lit, so Miss Berkshire's class is awesome."

"Oh yeah, I always wondered why you're not so vocal in there, though."

"I have dyslexia, or as I call it, the "I can't spell for shit and I suck at socializing" disorder. So I'm a mute in class, but when I'm out with my friends I'm a loud dumb bitch."
