Grace's P.O.V

Knocking

Is what I heard as I sat in my living room trying to do my homework, well not really my homework since I was currently ahead of my class. I didn't stand up and head to the door since it was probably Zach wanting to spend some quality time and say were 'sister-brother bonding.' So I just let him knock on the door till he gets fed up and ends up using the key he has that he persuaded me to give to him in case of an emergency.

Which usually consist of me usually forgetting my key in my house, leaving me stranded.

As I continue to sit down I notice the knocking comes to a halt and then silence. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion since Zach should have opened the door by now or yelled at me to open to door. I slowly get up from my couch and walk over to the door, but not too closely.

I stare at it.

The silence met behind the door was scaring me more than it should, I mean maybe he left because he noticed I wasn't home or forgot something at home and went to go retrieve it.

I think I'm just paranoid from all the times Zach saying I was going to get broken into. I come up with the solution of calling his cell phone to see where he's at hopefully at the other side of my front door. I walk over to the table that was in front of the place where I was sitting at but still keep my eyes trained onto the door.

I unlock my phone and press on Zach names then pull up the phone up to my ear. I hear the familiar buzzing as I wait for him to pick up his phone.

Then I hear his voice, "Hello?"

I let out a breath that I didn't even notice I was holding in, "Hey Zach."

"What's up? You usually don't call me," Zach says as he shuffles around on the other side.

"Umm," I mumble, "I was wondering if you were currently outside my front door- or you know- were you knocking?"

I bit my lip as I wait for him to answer, scared of what he might say because if it isn't him who was outside my house I don't know who is. I don't have close friends, my parents would have called me beforehand, the only person who it might be is Zach. I really hope it is.

"It's not me, but just don't open the door," I hear Zach say as I hear keys jiggling from his side of the phone.

"What? Why?"

Please don't say it, please don't say it.

"I wasn't me Grace, I'm at the grocery store right now just to be safe don't open it."

And right then and there I stop breathing and look back at my front door just waiting for something bad to happen.

"Grace!" Zach yells getting my attention.

"Yeah," I whisper scared that whoever is on the other side might hear me.

"Grace I need you to listen to me," then I hear Zach starting his car and he starts speaking again, "I need you to go to your room and hide- or you know anywhere. Like under your bed in a closet, anywhere."

I stay frozen, "Zach you're scaring me more than what I already am, what if it's just someone selling things or-"

Zach yells, "Grace! Listen to me, were just taking safety precautions. Now have you done what I said to do."
