Marceline shuffled her feet underneath the tree shade. “Bonnie…” she whined. Today she was supposed to meet up with the princess for a day out; however, it was definitely an hour past the meet up time. Bonnie was late. Marceline huffed and pulled at her fingers. She would give her another 25 minutes, and then she would go home. Besides, she was starting to get hungry and there was nothing red in sight.

Marceline laid back and made especially sure not to let the sun touch the edge of her feet. Anything but that burn, that hurt so much! 5 minutes later a small shout gained Marceline’s attention. She sat up and held onto her sun hat to keep it from flying off of her.

“Bonnie?” She called out, nervously. “Marceline! Im so sorry!”

Out of the distance a hurried Princess Bubblegum jogged towards her. It felt like forever since she had seen her, just hearing her voice meant the world to her. “Bonnie, whatsup? Why are you so late?” Marceline huffed, pretending to be annoyed. The least she could do was giving her a hard time. She was late after all. “Just –give me a second,” the princess huffed, plopping down in front of her. “Woooo,” she cooed, “That was so much running.” Marceline smiled at the girl and her antics. So smart, yet so far from athletic, she thought silently.

“What’re you grinning for?”

“Oh nothing, nothing,” Marceline waved. “Gonna tell me why you’re so delayed Princess?”

“I thought I told you not to call me that,” Princess Bubblegum retorted. “I prefer not to miss the simple pleasures in life.” Marceline shrugged.

“There was a hold up at the King-“Marceline cut off the princess mid-sentence. “Nope, don’t want to hear it.”

“Oh Marcy, don’t start that again.” Princess Bubblegum huffed. Marceline hated hearing what was going on in her ‘beloved kingdom’. As far as she was concerned, it always managed to take away from their time and she thought it was unfair. When she was with Bubblegum, she wanted her to focus on her. Not her kingdom. Besides, with all the hiding, she already thought it was rather unfair. She would love to be able to hold the Princess’s hand whenever she wanted, but that was too ‘frowned upon’.

“Marceline,” Princess Bubblegum cooed. “You’re zoning out on me here aren’t you?” Marceline looked up to see PB smiling softly at her. “So what did you want to do anyway?” she asked.

Marceline shrugged and held out her hand towards the Princess. “I haven’t decided yet. But wait, hold on. Lemme see your hand yeah?” She smiled slightly and watched the princess’s expression. She raised an eyebrow, “What for?” She slowly placed her hand in Marceline’s. Marceline jerked her hand up as if to smack it and PB flinched. “What the heck are you trying to do?” Marceline giggled and grinned. She liked playing games, and Princess Bubblegum was her favorite target. She jerked her hand again and to her delight, the princess flinched back and narrowed her eyes. “Marceline, come on, let’s just figure out what we’re gonna do already.”

“Alright, alright.” Marceline turned over PB’s hand slowly and raised it to her lips, kissing it gently. A slight flush spread across the Princess’s face. The simple pleasures always made her smile the most. The smallest joys always made her happy. Marceline memorized it well. “We can… hm…” she thought, licking the corner of her fang. “Are you thirsty?” she asked, raising her own eyebrow at the Princess jokingly.

The Princess huffed and narrowed her eyes, “You are not biting me.”

“Oh come on Bonnie, I was just kidding. How about something from a shop? Maybe a restaurant?”

“Better.” PB replied. “Or I can just get my fill here…” Marceline grinned deviously and leaned forward towards Bubblegum. “No!” the Princess giggled and held Marceline at the shoulders. “Come on, just a little taste!”
