Iyla had met Daniel on the forth day of her junior year in highschool. The crowded hallways and unfamiliar faces made her struggle to breathe and made her hands shake. Not knowing anyone was hard on her as she had lived in the same place her whole life.
Daniel was a senior with a small friend group and a tendency to be kind but still closed off. His smiles were warm. He saw Iyla trying hard to open her locker and watched her until the late bell rang, laughing everytime she shook or pulled on the lock.
He quickly approached her and insisted on helping her.
"If you do it, then how will I do it myself before next period?" she said quietly, backing away slightly.
"It's okay. I'll do you this one favor until you learn how."
