The church bells chimed as the Sunday gathering ended.
The many yet few women and children soon piled out of the large entrance doors as the vicar wished them the best of luck on their way.
The girl with the red ribbon stood outside, waiting for her mother who nattered away to her friend, completely oblivious that her girl with the red ribbon stood by the tree waiting. It wasn't long before the girl with the red ribbon got home with her mother, where they promptly came in and hung their coats on the old coat hanger that sat in the corner of their cramped hallway
"What about a luncheon meat sandwich for lunch?" The mum asked the girl in the red ribbon
"Yes please, Thank you mummy" replied the girl with the red ribbon as she unbuckled her shoes and placed them neatly under the old coat hanger.
Soon after, their sandwiches - although small in size; were ready. They sat at their small and rather empty looking dining table and slowly took their time eating the luncheon meat sandwiches. Although the girl in the red ribbon didn't particularly like what she was eating, she was still as grateful as she could be, knowing it was all there was left for the remaining month.
"When will daddy return home?" The girl with the red ribbon asked politely, unaware of where he may be
"Soon my darling, soon" the mother sighed, before taking the final bite out of her luncheon meat sandwich and taking the plates to clean, taking a final gaze at the girl with the little red ribbon
