A few hours later has me sat in the rickety old armchair across from the brunette. She was still passed out, looking to be at peace in her sleep. The whole house seemed to have an intentionally antique aesthetic to it, mixed with the newest technology scattered about.
I learned her name was Alycia when exactly 5 minutes ago, her landline rung. I turned my head in the direction of the phone a few rooms over. Relying on my heightened hearing to locate the device. When the ringing stopped, I heard a dull click. Signalling the caller had left a message. "Alycia! Sorry, I know it's still early in Seattle. Just wanted to let you know that vacation ended early and I am back home. I will try to come see you in a few week. Bye!"
I looked over at the clock, it was almost 8:17am. I had long since thrown one of the blankets off the couch to cover up the window. I brought my knees to my chest and rest my head atop them, letting out a sigh.
Right now, my best hope is that she'll sleep through the night and I can make my escape. With one last look cast toward the girl on the couch, I stood. Making my was to the record player I'd seen in the adjacent room. I started on the vinyl that was already placed gently down. It took a few seconds but soon a gentle tone began to feel the house. I closed my eyes. Bracing myself on the edges of the mahogany table as the slow vilone allowed my mind to drift away.
I must have stayed motionless for hours, which isn't too uncommon for vampires. The music stopped and I opened my eyes. The sun still streamed in from were the curtains failed to conceal. Not even dusk yet...
I picked up another vinyl. This one was of a vaguely familiar rock band, Fleetwood Mac. I carefully switched the the new vinyl in and moved the needle over. I listened to the classic rock the in much of the same manner; letting time tick by.
It only seemed as if a few minutes had gone by, but my body sensed it was approaching late afternoon by the time the last song of the album played. Still focusing on the tone, I left my stance to aimlessly walk around the home. I had begun to take a liking to this band, and as Gold Dust Women played in my ears, I rounded the center threshold to make my way into the living room area.
I processed everything at once. Nearly colliding with a body, and then barley dodging the broom that was flung in messy attempted to whack my head. I peered up as I ducked below the blow. How did I not hear her wake up? Damn Stevie Nicks and her sweet-sweet voice....
"Woah, woah, woah." I eased as I reached up and snatched the broom out of her hand with ease. Being careful not to be so forceful as to rip her hands with it. I shot sleeping beauty an unimpressed look, before flinging the broom away from both of us. Her green eyes widened at the action as she stumbled back. "Where was this fighting spirit back at the subway?"
Her-Alycia, who had been walking backwards; whilst reaching for something to defend herself on the hallway counter, stopped. I watched patiently as the girl seemed to recount the events of the past few hours. Fear, worry and recognition all dance across her face. She remained still for a few moments before her emerald gaze snapped back up to meet my Y/E/C eyes. She let out a frustrated noise as she reached across the wooded counter in the hall, grabbing hold of a.......cat shaped bookend. She held it defensively out in front of her, as if it were a sword. "Who are you?!"
Glancing with displeasure at the item, I let out a sigh at the turn of events. Oh Y/N, what have you got yourself into? I raised both of my hands as a common sign of non-aggression. "Take it easy. You were attacked on the metro, and I simply intervened. I was just making sure you got home safely."
