Tap tap tap
A light tapping on my window awoke me from my lovely slumber. I groaned and went back to sleep thinking it was just a bird or something.
I snuggled deeper into my blankets and shut my eyes, entering once again in my dream world with unicorns and rainbows and quiet and peacef-
Tap tap tap
Alright, this bird won't give up but I won't either. I tried blocking out the noise but it didn't help that I was a light sleeper. I mean, come on, give me a break. Even the slightest twitch of a delicate feline can wake me up. Okay, maybe I exaggerated a little bit. But seriously, the tapping was loud enough to keep me awake but just as soft so that I won't bother to check it out. Don't understand? You don't have to. "Make love, not sense".
Anyways...
The tapping continued but grew louder every time. Okay, now I'm getting scared. What if it was a robber trying to break the glass? What if it was a killer shooting arrows at me? What if it was a lunatic dressed up as a bird trying to get my attention? My mind went wild thinking of all the possible things that was happening outside my window.
I snuggled deeper and deeper into my thick blanket until my entire body was behind the covers. My breath hitched and beads of sweat trickled down my face. The tapping was still unsurprisingly there. As if I was hallucinating, I think the taps had a beat.
Okay, I'm going crazy for sure. Who would think of rhythm in a situation that would probably end up me lying lifeless on my bed, my body covered by the blood soaked blanket that used to be a dirty white color. My guts spilled everywhere and my face in its shocked state, my last emotion on Earth before whatever tapping on my window came in and took my life away.
Okay, maybe that was a little bit too morbid. But hey, it could happen! Not that I want it to. But it could! Oh my gosh! What if it's my time to come? What if death was right around the corner behind my window, waiting for me to approach? I'm not ready yet! Who would be? I quickly jumped off my bed and grabbed a piece of paper and my green gel pen.
"Dear Nana,
If you are reading this, I'm probably dead and have already decayed. I'll always love you and my friends, please tell them. I may not be here physically but I'll always be in your he-"
I groaned as I shook my pen because it suddenly lost ink. Of all the times! Stupid pen. I should've realized this would happen. What? 10 cents was a negotiable price for a pen. It wasn't like I'd use it a lot anyway. But in my time of death? Tsk tsk. Stupid pen.
I realized that the tapping went faster. It was probably annoyed. So I dropped my pen walking slowly to my window. Each step I took, bits and pieces of memories flashed by and disappeared as fast as they came. My seventh birthday, I was wearing an elegant long sparkly blue gown that pooled around my small feet. Wow, even then I was classy. My graduation, a black gown covering my arms and my body, a black cap perched on my head, and me walking down the aisle with the biggest smile yet. My first day as a freshman, goofing around with my old and newfound friends. My last day of being a junior, spent with a party where all students were invited.
My life wasn't boring but it wasn't exciting either. I only remembered these things probably because something embarrassing happened.
I gulped as I reached the stained glass window. A silhouette of someone sitting on one of the branches of our birch tree formed. I slowly lifted the window but stopped halfway.
What was I thinking? Did I really bring myself to believe that I was going to die?
Shook my head and started closing the window but a voice stopped me.
"Psst... Sapphire!" Surprisingly, the voice was a female. I was too shocked to say anything much less move.
"What the heck are you waiting for? Christmas? Open the damn window!" The voice, or Death, hissed.
I took a step back and stuttered "S-sorry, I just never knew you were a woman and a little impatient." Wow, even in my time of death I'm socially awkward. "Not that there's anything wrong with being a woman. They all just say you're a man. Come to think of it, no one really knows since you're just a bunch of bones.." I rambled on. Awkward silence filled the room. Death broke it first.
"What the hell are you talking about Saph? It's me! Tori!"
My eyes went wide as a quickly opened the window. "Tori?" I managed to spit out. I was even more shocked.
"No, it's Ronald McDonald, I need my chicken back. Of course it's me!" She rolled her eyes.
"What took you so long? I thought you were a light sleeper?" She asked annoyance clear in her blue green eyes.
I looked around flushing, remembering the whole death scenario. "It's... Complicated." I said quietly.
"What are, you doing here anyways at..." I turned around to look at my clock and looked back at Tori. "5:56?" Why was she here so early?
She threw me a bracelet made out of beads and boy, was it colorful! As in rainbow nyan cat colorful. "What's with this?" I asked slipping it on my right wrist. "Just wear it until we see each other in school later. I'll explain. Mkay, darling?" I nodded as she climbed down our tree and ran quickly and quietly back to her house.
As much as I love Tori, I was more than happy to see her go off into the sunset.
I lazily crawled back to my bed, landing face first on my pillow and sleeping almost instantly. Time passed and soon, I was awoken again to face the hell of all hells.
School.
I suddenly wish that it was Death at my window last night. Or morning.
But either way, I'll die horribly either by a scythe or a really long boring day of school.

Author's Note:
Hi there! This is my new and first book ever since I joined Wattpad to save my home planet! Yay!
There probably won't be a lot of author's notes in the first few chapters because I have no one to talk to. Forever alone... Hehe. That's okay though, doing it for the funs not the fans. Lol.
Sorry if this chapter was short, it's kinda like a prologue. Don't worry I'll [try] making it longer as time goes by.
Okay, awkward alien mode activate. ._.
Please vote, follow, and comment! (If I deserve it, of course.)
~Lady Lyra out.
Peace humans.
