Twenty minutes.

Only twenty minutes left before the plane will be touching down. Mom, Dad and I are currently endeavoring to find a parking spot in the jam-packed airport lot. No, not Mom, Dad and I. Susan, Eric and I. I need to start programming that in my mind. They can't be anything more than Susan and Eric anymore. I ought to forget about them, no matter how impossible it will be.

If that isn't enough to ask of me, it's also essential that I find a way to act civil around my real mother. That means no tying her to train tracks while she sleeps, no shoving her into incoming traffic, and worst of all, having to resist punching her in her snotty little face when she pretends that the bad blood between us only survives in my mind.

I'm drawn out of my thoughts when a hand begins waving frantically in front of my face and Eric's voice says, "Jade, honey, we have to go in now. She'll be landing in five minutes."

Hesitantly, I unbuckle my seat belt and step out of the car. Eric and Susan each hold one of my large brown suitcases in their hands. Susan swats at my fingers when I reach for the luggage in her possession.

"There's no need to worry about these," she says, refurring to my bags. "We've got them."

"Thank you." I manage to flash a forced smile in their direction before taking the lead as we venture to the front entrance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We've been waiting impatiently by the conveyor belt since the passengers began to depart the airplane, which was over an hour ago. Very few bags remain on the belt, nearly each and every passenger has already been in here to retrieve their things. However, we are yet to catch sight of my mother. Maybe she's forgotten about me already...

Just when I am beginning to think that I may have gotten lucky and am going to be able to return to my life, I see a woman with jet black hair waltz into the room. It was her. Even though she had her head down and her sunglasses on, there was no mistaking her. This is the woman I hate. This is the woman that destroyed my childhood. This is Demi Lovato.
