One birthday after another
As she gets older, so do I
I then realize what was wrong with Ellie on her second surgery
"It's a heart disease."
"She is missing a chamber and a pipe for her heart."
"We don't know how she got it. None of her parents had it or any family members. None that we can recall."
We are lucky that the doctors were able to reconstruct a chamber and a pipe
If the doctors couldn't
I could have imagined something heartbreaking
Death
The surgery
Was terrifying
We were terrified of the outcome
I heard the chatter of doctors and the surgeons
They seemed to be stressed
I looked around at my family seeing only stress
I tap on my dad's shoulder and I ask
"What's going on?"
"I don't know."
Sound familiar?
He said the same thing when I asked him about Ellie's birth
He is been like this since her surgeries
Unsure of the outcome
I'm sure he is told afterwards
But why keep the outcomes a secret?
Why not tell me?
Because I was younger
I wouldn't have understood the details like I do now
Knowing that Ellie's situation was so much worse than I thought, it kinda hard to imagine what her defect can do
It can stop her from reaching goals
Dreams
And
I don't want to say it but . . .
Possibly her future
