The Letter

The letter could not have come at a worse time. The Iycen had just reached Engor and Labyrinth was still dealing with its Barbitox crisis. I had only been studying and working in the hospital for four years and the they were relying on me and the other students to find a solution while the experienced men and women dealt with "more urgent matters that would affect the system's existence for generations to come." Elise and Edlier had begun working for their father, Sunday, in his astrolabe. It had been three years since they left with their father's team to study planets abroad. I had received word from them twice the year they left, but it had been over two years since either of them had written to me. But after reading the five-page score Elise sent me, I would have rather not even heard from them for the rest of my life. Summarizing much, her letter stated;

Enrick,

My father suggested I inform you of the encounters we have had while on Psuedohyde—if you do not remember, that is the planet we were stationed on. Edlier says he regrets not writing to you for so long, as have I. And although it sorrows me to write all I will, you only deserve to know everything. As you know, my father's corporation not only believes in and studies the science of astronomy but, is one of the greatest assets of our home planet. While studying abroad we received word from The United Celestial Systems Association. The Iycen has regrouped with the Deromites. We are now on an emergency mission to limit contact between the two and interfere before they exploit The First Planet. We have been on this mission for six months and still have not been able to track down even half the surface of their plans, and we fear that the longer we take, the more complex their plans will become, allowing them to further corrupt the entire solar system. I am writing about this to you because I think you will find it useful depending on the path you choose to take. The UCSA is beginning a trial army of youth, because despite the System's theory of importance in education, they believe the older generation will not be enough for whatever is coming and think the younger citizens can offer more than their years of education. Father and I think you should apply, and believe you will do well there. As for Edlier's feelings, I do not know. He was captured by an extension of the Iycen last year. We have not seen or heard from him since, but I'm sure he is doing all he can for the entire system's benefit. And although he is not with me and I can no longer hear his thoughts, I'm sure he would urge you to join the UCSA's battalion.

With deep feelings, Elise
