Neela was surprised to discover a furious Neil at her doorstep. "Neil," she started only to halt the chain of questions she were to throw his way as she found him least interested.
"Later, Neela maa," he walked past her, completely ignoring her. She shook her head in disbelief. The guy was hopelessly in love with her daughter.
Looking at his retreating figure, she found his frame merged with the darkness of one of the corners of her house. The corner that led to the brightest one.
Her bachha.
She smiled at his eagerness to meet Avni. He even forgot to greet her properly; and she would hold that against him in the near future.
Neil burst into Avni's room only to find her comfortably sprawled over her bed with her legs snugly covered with quilt. Her back was leaning on the head board. Her laptop sat next to hers, whilst she had a novel settled onto her lap. Her eyes shifted from the novel that she was reading, to her husband, who stood by the door.
Her eyes swept across his form, slowly. She longed for him. It had only been a couple of hours since they had parted and they already felt deserted. Though it wasn't the first time that they had separated, the fear had them gripped. The stakes were high. Still his stormy eyes held determination. How heart shattering it was for him to let her walk away, even though it was all a pretense.
It broke her into pieces with each step that drifted them apart. Having him stand in front of her, she felt an uncertain emotion taking over her.
She was relaxed while he was anything but. "Why did you have to do that?" He questioned, trying to contain his anger. His voice had been dangerously low but his hands fisted at his sides.
"Relax, Neil! I have tackled much more," she reasoned, though he wasn't ready to take a chance. The stakes were too high.
"Relax," he gritted his teeth. Her attempts seemed fuel his burning rage. "Do you even realize what could have happened, had Vidyut found out about you hiding in his goddamn closet?"
"But the point is, he did not," she calmly pointed out. She seemed to be rather bored with the conversation about Vidyut. "Above all, I had you to back me up," she winked at her husband while flashing him with a toothy grin. He was caught off guard.
"What if I couldn't make it on time?" He took a step forward, while she was still comfortably seated on her bed.
"You think that Vidyut could harm me?" pinning her eyes at him, she dared him to speak otherwise. Having received no response, she added, "He cannot even as much as dare to touch me. I will break his bloody bones if he even intends to," she flared.
"But you do know he is evil; he feels nothing but lust for women," he took another step. She sighed, it was a known fact. "I fucking loose my shit, when he looks at you with those lusty eyes," his jaws ticked and he tried his best to not to think of the way Vidyut's eyes traveled each time at his wifey. He might have not been vocal about his lust but his eyes gave away. Every time Vidyut had his eyes on Avni, Neil could figure out his intentions. Vidyut had been pretty obvious about that fact.
She tugged onto his arms and he landed right next to her. Holding his face in her palms, she whispered, "You don't need to bother about it." He cupped his hands over hers that held him so dearly. The warmth in her touch, melting him. Her forehead leaned into his and his eyes went shut.
"I can't afford to loose you," he admitted his deadliest fear.
"I am right here," she reassured him. She looked at him. He was as vulnerable as she was; or even worse. It wasn't until now that she had realized how badly she had missed him. The love in his eyes, the tender strokes of his fingers, the secure grip of his hugs and his feather light kisses. She had missed it all.
