The walk back to my house after school was nice and peaceful. Cade didn't try to come after me again that day, but I knew he would eventually. I walked up the driveway to my house and saw that my parents cars were still there, meaning they hadn't left yet. I quietly walked in the house and tried to get into my room without anyone noticing, but of course I failed. "Luna!" my little sister, Hope, shouted, giving me a huge hug. I hugged her back and smiled. "How was your day Hope?" I asked her. She gave me a serious look. "Mum and Dad are fighting again." she said. From the way she spoke, I almost forgot she was only 7, and didn't understand what was happening. I sighed. "They didn't do anything to hurt you, did they?" I asked her. She shook her head. "Of course not! They would never do anything like that." If only she knew.... "I'm going to Lilly's house for a few days." Hope said. Once she finished her sentence the door bell rang. "That's her now." I nodded my head and gave her another hug. "I'll see you in a few days Hope." I said. "I love you sis." I smiled. "I love you too." I let go, ruffled her hair, and walked into my room.

Once I walked into my room my phone started ringing. I didn't recognize the number, but I answered it anyway. "Hello?" I said. "Luna! Are you alright?" the voice on the other line said. I immediately recognized the voice as Dan's. "Hi Dan. Yeah I'm alright. Why?" "I kept sending you texts but you wouldn't answer. I got worried and thought something had happened." he said with concern in his voice. "Oh..." was all I was able to say before I heard my Dad screaming my name from downstairs. "Uh...Dan, this isn't really the best time-" I stopped talking because I heard my Dad stomping up the stairs. "Dan, please be quiet. Don't say anything, not matter what happens." Not listening to what he was saying I put the phone down on my desk just as my Dad barged into my room.

"Who the hell are you talking to?" he yelled, his words slurring together. He was drunk. Again. And I had to deal with him. "N-no one. I-it was j-just a friend." I stuttered. He glared at me and pushed me against the wall. "A friend from where?" he spat. The smell of alcohol was so strong I had to fight the urge to gag. "S-school." I told him. As soon as I said it he backhanded me across the face leaving me crying out in pain. "You? Making a friend?" He gave me a humorless laugh. "I highly doubt that. You are too ugly and dumb to make a friend." he said. "And stop stuttering. It makes you sound even dumber." "Why? Why are you like this?" I asked. He glared at me and I wished that I'd kept my mouth shut. He punched my face and shoved me to the floor. The he kicked me in the side on the same spot Cade had earlier, leaving me crying in agony yet again. "Because you aren't my daughter. You are a worthless piece of crap just like your sister. I'm glad she's dead. She was never my daughter and neither are you. Go do us all a favor and die like she did. The world is better off without you here." He snarled. Giving me one more kick in the side, he shook his head and walked off. I heard the door slam and a car pull out of the driveway. Both him an Mum had left for work, so I was all alone. My Dad was right. I was a worthless piece of crap that deserved to die. I laid on the ground with my eyes closed for a minute or so, until they shot open as I realized something.

Dan had heard everything.

I crawled over to my desk and grabbed my phone, putting it to my ear. "D-dan?" I said, my voice shaking. "Pack a bag and text me your address. I'm coming to pick you up. You're not staying there tonight." He said. "Dan I-" "Please Luna." he said with desperation in his voice. I sighed. "I'll see you in a bit." I said before I hung up. I always kept a bag Full of clothes and other things I might need in case something happened. I pulled it out of my closet and slid down the wall. Everything hurt, but I welcomed the pain. I had texted Dan my address and no more than 15 minutes later he arrived. He knocked on the front door but I didn't have the energy to go and open it. I texted him instead telling him to come in, so he did. "Luna?" I heard him call. "Upstairs." I called quietly. I didn't think he had heard me, but he did because a few seconds later I heard him walk into my room. His eyes scanned the room until they landed on me and I saw them widen. He walked over to me and sat beside me, just staring. "I'm sorry." I said right before I burst into tears. He shook his head and hugged me. My tears got his shirt wet, but I don't think he minded. "You aren't worthless. No matter what he says or what you think. There are people who care." He mumbled softly.

I shook my head. I knew he didn't really care. He only pitied me. "I'm better off without people pretending to care about me. No one ever truely cares." I told him. Dan pulled away to look at me. He put his fingers under my chin and lifted my head up so that I was looking at him. "I care, alright? No matter what, I will make you believe I care." He wiped my tears away with his thumb and I shook my head. "Why do you care?" I asked him. "No one has ever bothered to notice or even pretend to care. Why do you suddenly want to be around me?"

"Because I know what its like. I know what you're going through. I know it might not seem like it, but I do." He told me. Dan stood up and pulled me with him. "Do you have a bag?" he asked, and I nodded. He smiled. I grabbed my bag and slowly started to walk downstairs with Dan until I stopped. He turned to me with a confused look on his face. "I forgot something. I'll be right there." I told him. He nodded and went to wait for me by the front door.

It took me longer then it should have to get to the bathroom because every time I took a step I got shooting pains in my back and legs, but I made it there. I kneeled down beside the sink cabinet and opened it. Reaching to the back I pulled a loose piece of wallpaper from the wall revealing a small space behind it. Grabbing the small box from the space, I shoved it into my bag and hurried downstairs to meet Dan.

God, this was going to be a long weekend.
