Prologue
"Leave me. I wish to be alone. It has been a tiresome day and to much has been done. The rest can wait till tomorrow."
I feel the men leave the room and the door make a small thud behind them. The God-awful slang, hot I hate it. I feel like a child not pronouncing the entire word and instead dropping parts of it off as though they are not needed. Every part of a word is needed to have the desired effect on the being spoken to or about. I wish the others would allow me to fall back into my old ways, the old, proper ways, but since this century started that simply has not been enough for them. They wish to blend further into society, not I, society does not want me, and I do not want it.
I sigh and turn to the open balcony door. I stride out into the radiant moonlight. I feel the slight chill of the breeze, but when it dies down the heat pulls through the veil. An unusual night. I wish not to go out, but my stomach is willing dinner and I must so oblige.
