“What’s wrong with you?” Hermione demanded when she was finally alone with Ron.

“Nothing, I’m fine.” He said grumpily.

“No you’re not, you are acting weird and I want to know why!” She said aggressively.

“He’s my brother Hermione! Do you know how weird that is for me?” He asked her, just as aggressively.

Hermione was shocked. She had never thought of it that way. It would affect her friendship with Ron, hell with the whole Weasley family.

“I’m sorry Ron, I didn’t think of it that way.” Hermione said softly.

“Yeah well that’s obvious!” Ron said, walking across the room away from her.

“I’m sorry.” Hermione said, following him.

“I know.” Ron said, and with that he walked out the door, leaving a saddened Hermione alone in the room.

Fred was lying on his bed, he still couldn’t get his kisses with Hermione out of his head, and he couldn’t believe how lucky he was.

He hadn’t even been lying there five minutes when there was a sharp knock on the door.

“Come in.” George called and Ron walked into the room, the tops of his ears were bright red.

“What’s wrong?” Fred asked, sitting up in bed.

“I need to talk to you.” Ron said.

“I’ll just go see what Ginny’s up to.” George said, sliding off the top bunk and quickly heading out the door.

“Ron what’s wrong?” Fred asked him again. Ron sat down on the bed beside Fred but didn’t say a word. As Fred watched his younger brother he saw that he was trying to say something, it was as if he was struggling to get it out.

“What ever it is you can tell me.” Fred said, putting a hand on his shoulder.

“It’s just that I…I kind of have…feelings for Hermione.” Ron practically whispered.

How had he not seen this before? Only now did Fred recognize all the looks he had seen his brother give the girl he loved, because they were the same looks he had been giving her.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything.” Ron said quickly, getting up and trying to head for the door.

“No, it’s fine. I’m sorry Ron, I didn’t realize. I was too busy trying to get over my own feelings for her.” Fred said.

The two brothers stood there awkwardly, neither of them knowing what to say next.

“What should we do?” Fred asked finally.

“I dunno.” Ron said, looking anywhere but at his brother.

“I guess, neither of us should go out with her.” Fred forced himself to say, though the words burned his throat.

“But what about Hermione, she clearly has feelings for you, and I don’t want her to know how I feel.” Ron said quickly.

“Well, I’ll just tell her that I think it would be wrong for us to get into anything what with her being so close to you and Ginny.” Fred said.

“Thanks Fred.” Ron said, giving his brother a quick, one-armed hug.

The second the door closed the tears once again began to roll down Fred’s face. This had been both the best and the worst day of his life, and he hadn’t even told Hermione yet.
