Rayn awoke on a soft bed, facing a window with a view of the sunset. She looked down to see she no longer had her sword or potions. She was completely defenceless. She slowly got up off the bed, feeling slightly dizzy, and went to the door, pulling on its handles. "Locked." she muttered, stepping away from the door with a look of frustration.
The last thing she had seen were the seven kings, who hated her kind. So why wasn't she in the dungeons, or dead? This had to be some sort of trap.
She took another step back as the door opened, and a girl with brown hair walked in, with a tray of food. Rayn stared at the girl distrustfully, but the girl just smiled kindly at her.
"Hello," The girl said, sticking her hand out. "I'm Maddie."
Rayn stared at her for a few minutes, then gave into the girls friendliness and cheerfulness. "I'm Rayn..." She said slowly, sticking out her hand. "Where am I?"
"Oh, you're in one of the guest rooms of Ians castle." Maddie replied with a smile. "Sorry we had to lock the doors and windows, we just didn't want you to leave."
"What are you going to do with me?" Rayn asked, fear in her voice as she realized they might still kill her.
"Nothing!" Maddie said quickly, looking shocked at the idea. "We're just going to ask you a few questions, that's all. You look young, how old are you?"
"Seventeen..."
"Oh, cool! I'm nineteen!" Maddie said with a grin. "And do you have any parents? Guardians?" She asked.
Rayns eyes flared with anger as she glared at the ground. "No. They were killed by Ssundees father."
Maddie bit her lip, sadness and grief in her eyes. "I'm sorry to hear that. It must've been very hard for you." Rayn said nothing, and Maddie took that as a sign to keep talking. "Rayn, do you know what happened here?" She asked as she walked over to the window and gestured towards the empty city.
Rayn looked at her, puzzled. "No... what happened?"
Maddie sighed. "A few days ago, a sickness started spreading around. It caused its victims to die a pale grey colour, so people started calling it the wither sickness. People started dying by the dozens, one of them Ian's mother. The few people left have hidden away in their houses. We have no idea how to stop it, but we need to. We're beginning to think we need some help..."
Rayn stared at her in disbelief. "You mean..."
Maddie nodded. "Yes, Rayn. We're asking you for your help."

"This is a horrible idea!" Jason exclaimed, pacing around the room in anger.
Sky sighed. "We need her help, Jason. We can't let this virus continue to spread." He explained. "Maddie and Ian trust her, why can't we?"
"Because this is a sorceress we're talking about!" Jason yelled. "They're evil and conniving! She should be in the dungeons right now, not one of their nicest guest rooms!" Jerome didn't get what was so wrong with magical beings. The sorcerers and furry forest baccas had always gotten along before they had been made into criminals.
"What's so bad about them, anyways?" Mitch asked. Jerome, who was sitting next to him, shrugged.
"They're evil!" Jason repeated, growing frustrated.
"How do you know?" Quentin asked. "Have you met any? That's like saying all mudkipz are evil."
Jason just shook his head, a frustrated look on his face.
The door creaked open, and Jerome looked over to see Maddie enter the room, Ian close behind her. "She accepted."
