 Introduction

It was a normal day in the town of Brackhampton. Dark, gloomy skies that looked like they never shined, old monochrome buildings that looked like they were going to fall apart, even the people; who looked so solemn and mysterious that it looked like they never experienced anything joyful in their life.

It started in that small town, in a small house on Seib Avenue, where a small family was expecting a small miracle, that might change their lives for good.

"C'mon, you got this," Brian said nervously to his stressed wife, who was in labor. As his wife screamed in pain, sweat dripping down her face; her miracle was born.

As Brian held the baby carefully, he stated in awe, "Reneè, it's a girl, a beautiful baby girl." The baby wailed, alarming everyone she's alive. Reneè smiled weakly, as the nurse came in the bedroom to clean the baby and to check her patient.

"Congratulations," the nurse cooed softly. "What are you going to name her?" Brian looked at his wife for an answer.

"Nicole Diane Hayes." Reneè said confidently. The nurse nodded, exiting the room with the baby in her hands. Brian walked to his wife and sat in a chair next to the bed.

He grabbed her hands and said, "It's going to be a new life for the both of us Reneè."

"No, it's going to be a new life for all of us, the baby, you and I."

They smiled at each other as they shared a blissful kiss.

Not even two rooms away, the nurse handled and cared for Nicole with such gentleness only a nurse or mother could pull off. She glanced back at the bedroom across the hall for a moment before looking back down at the helpless newborn in her arms. The baby continued to cry.

"Shh, it's alright sweetheart," the nurse whispered, tenderly caressing her cheek. Nicole whined, but her cries quieted drastically. The nurse glanced back cautiously once more before grabbing a bottle and settling into a rocking chair in the corner of the nursery. The bottle was filled with a pearly colored liquid, clearly not milk, but the nurse still proceeded to feed Nicole. The baby suckled greedily, cooing and whining in satisfaction. The nurse smiled softly. "You're going to make a difference in this world, Nicole," she whispered silently rocking the baby back and forth
