Harry walked out from the shadows in the hallway. His eyes were wide. "Colette,: he whispered then ran to her, enveloping her in a hug.
"Can I come in?" Colette asked when Harry had finally pulled away.
"Of course," he nodded.
"Look I don't have a lot of time but-"
"What happened to you?" Harry interruped her.
"I-I had to go..." she said shamefully.
"Can you at least tell me why?" he asked. Now all the other boys had start filling into the hallway, all equally shocked when they saw her.
"Colette!" Liam shouted when he saw her. He ran to her and pulled her into a bone crushing hug. "What happened? Where did you go?"
"I guess I owe you an explanation..." she said, rubbing the back of her neck.
---
She waved goodbye to Niall and Liam in the doorway, gave Harry a quick kiss on the cheek and made her way back to her room. She unlocked the door and stepped inside.
She let out a gasp. Her room was torn apart. Wallpaper had been torn from the wall, her clothes were tossed out of her drawers and on the floor, the TV laid broken on the floor, and there was a note folded neatly on her bed, looking very out of place in the messy room. She walked over and picked up the note.
You might have escaped from me nearly 18 years ago but once I start a job, I finish it.
Colette froze. She looked around the room, making sure she was alone. In a frenzy, she grabbed all her things and hurriedly stuffed them into her suitcase. Once most of her things were in her bag, she ran. She asked to check out of the hotel, hoping to seem nonchalant but failing miserable. The clerk noticed but didn't say anything.
She left the hotel, unware where to go now so she went where she felt safe.
Colette thanked the taxi driver as she grabbed her bag and exited the car. She rushed past the looming iron gates and rook the familiar path to her family's graves. She collapsed in front of them, weeping. "What am I supposed to do? she wailed to her deceased family. Her tears silently rolled down her cheeks. She put her hands on the ground to steady her shaking self but instead of feeling soft dirt under her hand, she felt something ahrd. She looked down and saw a red cover of a book. With trembling hands she picked up the book. With acloser look at it, she realzied it was a diary. She flipped through the empty pages and two notes fell out.
She shook with fear that it would be from the killer but opened it despite her fear. She picked up the smaller one first. Instead of the killer's large, threatening handwriting, her eyes were greeted by a small, feminine handwriting she'd never seen before. It was written in French but Colette pulled out her phone to traslate it. This is what it said:
To my dear daughter Colette,
He's getting closer to us each day. I fear I won't be around for very much longer, which is why I'm writing this to you. If you're reading this than that means I was right. An old family friend is coming to take you and your brother away with her. You will be safe with her. She will explain everything to you when you are ready. I love you so much.
Mom
A tear escaped Colette's eye as she looked at her mother's handwriting. She held the paper for a minute, just trying to imagine her mother scribbling these words on this little piece of paper. she picked up the next, larger pice of parchment. 'Colette' was scrawled across it in Samantha's wobbly handwriting.
