I was seven years old, eating the pizza my brothers snuck home the day before for breakfast. They sat on either side while we watched Saturday morning cartoons. I'll remember that day all too well.
"You know why mom and Dad aren't home right?," said Ivan, my oldest brother. He is 9 years older than I am and the most cry baby person I know.
"They're not on a date are they?! Because that would be gross!," I made gross faces as I said it.
"Emily, you're really stupid.," Danny told me with a blank face. He was always a smart asshole but he had a soft side when it came to me even if it didn't seem like it.
"Our parents are at the hospital Emily.,"he said.
"Why?," I asked worried.
"Don't worry about it too much chubs. Dad has just not been feeling the best. He's been coughing a lot lately and mom finally convinced him to see a doctor. It's probably just a cold or something.," Ivan assured me.
"Oh.," I dismissed it and got sucked into watching Dragon Ball Z and eating a big slice of cold pizza while my brothers practiced they're "hamehame haaa's". I didn't give it much thought then.
