michael clifford woke up on his first day of junior year before his alarm. while he was dead tired he couldn't escape his nerves, and odd.... excitement for today.
this year felt like it was going to be different. more like michael hoped it would be.
he got out of bed and slowly walked to the bathroom down the hall wanting nothing more than to waltz back into his bed and pass out for another four hours, but sadly he can't risk his gpa dropping for some more sleep.
keeping up with a 3.89 gpa isn't easy. actually it's quite a pain in the ass-it would be a 4.0 if it wasn't for that one math teacher- but anyways he was never a quitter and with only two years left why stop giving a shit now. the better his grades the easier it will be to get into college, and if he's honest the thought of getting out of this town and pursuing something he loves is what keeps him motivated.
after a brisk shower michael throws on his clothes, and runs to the kitchen to get something to to eat along with a cup of coffee before heading out.
the perks of being seventeen consist of being able to drive to school and.... yeah that's it.
michael has always preferred getting to school early, but now that he needs to get a good parking space he can actually justify it.
once he's arrived michael claims a nice spot right by the school gates which is great because at the end of the day he'll be able to avoid the parking lot traffic.
after sitting on his phone and mentally prepping himself for the rest of the day he gets out of his car, and grabs his backpack from the back seat. locking the car without a glace back he moves towards the gates.
going to the same school for three years makes it so that you become quite familiar with it, which means that finding his classes should be no problem. glancing at his schedule he sees that his favorite subject isn't till the end of the day... what a joy.
making his way to his first period a familiar voice causes him to turn around.
"hey stranger." calum exclaimed.
"calum!" michael said with a grin; he was elated to see his best friend. it's been a long summer, and with family vacations and plans not lining up made it so they rarely got the chance to see each other. not to mention the fact that michael had started a job this summer.
"you look too awake for 7 in the morning did you bath in coffee this morning?" calum truly looked like death; michael felt sorry for him.
"aw cal you know me so well. only had one cup though this morning. i don't know im strangely excited about today."
calum wasn't surprised michael has always had more of an appreciation for school than he did. he just shrugged at him and they went on their way.
they had first, third, seventh, and eighth period together which isn't bad especially because their lunch period was the same as well. michael was glad because being alone was one of the things he hated most even if he wouldn't admit it.
they still had a bit of time until the bell rang signaling the start first period, so they just caught up with each other and shared details about their summers while they waited.

the first five classes of the day were surprisingly easy going, but then again as michael thought about it they had all been filled with silly get to know each other games so he couldn't really assess how the rest of the year was going to be.
both calum and michael were excited to have a break and get to eat something.
rather then sitting in the cafeteria they went behind the music building because they'd rather be in the heat by themselves than with air conditioning and a lot of obnoxious freshman running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
"i'm not going to lie i'm still sad that mr. evans retired last year" michael thought out loud.
"of course you are mike. you're literally like the only one who actually liked his lectures"
michael just nodded in agreement,he really did have a thing for history, and changed the subject.
lunch was over before they'd like it to be; at least it only meant that the day was closer to ending.
~
michael smiled at calum as they walked to their last period of the day, and calum couldn't help but smile back because even though he wasn't really a fan of history he knew how much michael loved it.
they arrived at building two and walked to the end of the hallway to the history classroom.
"right! so after tha-" michael cut himself off from him conversation with calum when he walked into the classroom because wow. the whole classroom was completely changed from last year. if he was being honest it made him kind of upset.
they explored the changed room quickly before the teacher came back from wherever they ran to during the 6 minute changing period.
"it's alright i guess" shrugged calum.
they took their seats and moments after a student walked in. michael thought that they were lucky they got in before the teacher because who knew if they'd be strict or not. he was actually quite handsome; michael couldn't help but give him a once over and he liked what he saw. he had blond hair with curls that make you want to run your fingers through them as well as striking blue eyes and not to mention the fact that he was insanely fit. he definitely had to be a senior. michael had to look away before he started drooling.
when this "student" walked to the teachers desk and sat down michael cocked his head then blinked rapidly in realization.
holy shit that was the new teacher.
