'Happy Birthday, love. Get up.' I hear a vague voice whisper in my ear. It doesn't take time for me to realize who it is. It's my mum.
I try to open my eyes but in vain. Something is stopping me. I around myself but its all black- except I can see a shadowy figure at a distance. I squint and try to recognize who it is. I run after it but the figure suddenly disappears. I now know that it's just a dream but something about it feels so real. It is like I have experienced the thing I am seeing right now.
A car, crashed in front of me and two people screaming for help from inside it. It is snowing heavily and it is so foggy that if I wasn't seeing this dream for the millionth time, I wouldn't even make out if it were a car or not. I feel my heart sink in. First I used to experience what happened 3 years ago repeatedly in my nightmares, but now, I see it happen in front of my eyes, which makes it even more painful.
I hear my mother screaming from inside of the car and I blink back the tears threatening to fall, but I fail miserably. I can hear the pain and fright in her voice. And I hear myself too, but it doesn't matter,
Because I lived and she died.
