You strolled down the street, hands in your baggy (F/C) hoodie. The sun was high in the sky, people walking around with their families and loved ones; walking their puppies and smiling.
You wished you could smile like that.
The park you used to play around in passed by in a blur as you kept your head down, following the beaten path downtown. The shops you frequented had become abandoned by you for quite some time now. It wasn't your fault. You just didn't enjoy life at the moment, or the months before that. You kicked up some chipped asphalt at the corner in frustration, turning until you walked down a new street.
The Bee's Knees ice cream parlor wasn't that far now. You just had to make it there, and you knew instantly you'd be happier. He was there, why wouldn't you be happier..? You hoped he had time for you; last visit his brother had shooed you from the establishment because he was trying to hook Mituna up with Latula...
Latula...
You bit your lip to hold back the emotions from two months ago. You had to forget it: your feelings for him... In comparison, who wouldn't choose the rad as hell dame over the girl next door? Many have called you beautiful and intelligent, a caring girl with a vibrant personality and a cute attitude!
.... You just don't see it yourself.
You stopped, as if from memory in your journey, to turn into the parlor. In the more busy days, during summer or after school, this place would be packed. Now that it was nearing October, no one wanted the laboriously sweet treats of an ice cream shop.
The bell buzzed a soft tune throughout the shop to identify your entrance, and that's when all their heads turned. Sollux peeked from behind the kitchen's wall to stare; their father, the manager, looked up from his newspaper from a table not too far from the door, and Mituna was at the register, his back now towards the shelves of lollipops and ice cream toppings to look at you. There was a couple there eating a sundae, but neither gave thought to looking at you.
"(Y/N)! What a pleasant surprise." Their father, nicknamed Psi, chimed with a happy lisp. You smile meekly and go to shake his hand. After he retracted said hand, he smiled at you. "How have you been? It's been a while since you stopped by."
Oh no, a conversation?? You cleared your throat lightly, not knowing if your voice even existed after weeks of not using it. Lowly, you murmured, "I've been ok... I'm sorry for um... Not... Visiting."
"Mituna, come here. You used to hang with (Y/ N) all the time! I'll operate the register." Psi folded his newspaper and tucked it underneath his armpit, waving to you gently. He was always terrific at reading people, so maybe the distraught, tired look on your face told him something.
Albeit, flustered, he made his way to you, fussing with his adorable little bee-shaped apron. You tried not to seem so excited or relieved to see him. He even gave you a hug which you more than gladly return. You two sat at the booth and he smiled.
"Th-tho... Hey." Mituna murmured, something of a flustered smile stretched between his cheeks. His bangs were out of his face, clipped back with a teal bobby-pin from the look of it. You figured it was Latula's. Plainly, you replied with a small hello, and you twiddled your thumbs under the table.
This wasn't how you expected it to go down, but... The inevitable just can't be avoided. The silence still hung in the air, and you heard the cutesy buzz of the door beside you; upon looking, you realized the couple had left. Now the shop was completely empty. All that was heard was the faint clacking of computer keys, the squeaking of dried glass, and Mituna's sneakers squeaking against the chair leg. The silence drove you nuts, but honestly, what else was there to say?
'So how is your girlfriend? I bet you're happy with her. How's life?'
Suddenly, Mituna gets up and heads to the kitchen. You proceed to slowly lay your forehead on your crossed arms over the table. You lay there and groan, pinching the bridge of your nose.
Stupid, stupid... Stupid! Stupid! It was a waste of time to come here..! There's nothing that can change his mind... God, I wish I could punch myself.
Stupid...
The next thing you knew, you're head is up, his eyes meet yours and you freeze. He's holding a sundae, with chocolate and vanilla and (favorite flavor not listed). On top, there's crumbs of some cookie like pastry, and in the middle are two (second favorite flavor) sticks. There's two spoons, two napkins, and sprinkles in his opposite hand. It's a good thing he was so skilled; you were afraid he'd hurt himself and spill the ice cream.
"W-what's that for..?" He blinked nervously at your question and when he sat down, placing everything between you two, he murmured.
"Thith ith, um... A new product I thought of... We haven't thold any becauthe we don't know if it... If it appealth to everyone. L-like it'th intended..." You looked to the sundae, biting your lip. He wanted your opinion... You looked up into his hereditary blue and light brown eyes and gave him a small, unsure smile.
"So.. you want me to uh.. test it..?"
"I'll try it with you!" He exclaimed all too quickly. You both blush and he blathered and fumbled with his words in his heated blush. You chuckled lightly and nodded, dismissing the excitement.
"It's fine. Can you tell me what it.. well, what it consists of?" He recalled the items you had previously noted and smiled to see that the flavored sticks on top were pocky. He called the dish a Pocky Sundae, consisting of crushed pocky crumbs to match the flavors put as the ice cream.
You both began eating it, subconsciously avoiding the pocky sticks on top. Before you two succumbed to brain freeze, Mituna got up and sat in your booth, nervously glancing around.
You figured it was nerves because of Latula possibly coming around, but then he gets closer to you, leaning his hand against your face. His eyes are wide, but sad and unsure. You look to him with a much happier smile and that's when it happened.
He plucked the pocky sticks from the dish the ice cream once inhabited, switching both ends so you were both given a dry end, and an ice cream drenched end. He held it to you between his lips.
His full lips were puckered and sweet looking and you blushed, covering your face momentarily.
Through the pocky he attempted, "thith ith altho a coupleth thpecial... The pocky ith for afterwardth..."
Before the ice cream dripped off the stick, nervously you placed it in your mouth. You heard him bite into it, and you remained frozen. How do you play this??? As if reading your mind, he muttered again, "You need to bite into it, too. One after the other."
As you slowly took bites of the two pocky sticks, you realized it was getting smaller and smaller, and your lips were getting closer and closer. Your stomach was doing flips and you wanted to just run away, back to your bed so you could cry at the fact that he's taken but a bigger, happier part wants this to happen. So you let it.
The twitch of his lips when yours met his was enough to realize what happened. It was chaste, quick and embarrassing, but you two had kissed. He flustered away, grabbing up the empty bowl and the spoons to bring to the kitchen.
You sat there, a finger to your lips as he rushed off. With a blink, you realize Psi is smiling at you and he mouths, "He's single."
This makes your heart flutter and the cold ice cream that filled your belly melt. With a small, honest smile to yourself, you realized something wonderful.
Your wish came true.
×× THANK YOU, UGH THIS WAS SO SWEET. ALDHHALFJAJ I hope it was to your liking! ^-^ gosh I love Mituna asdfghjkl. <3 ××
