"Hello may I help you?" The old lay at the front desk says.
"Uh. Yes. I need to talk with Mr. Keager, it's very important and very personal." I say.
"Well dear, do you have an appointment?" She asks.
"No." I snap.
"Then you can't see him." She replies.
"It's important," I say frustration rising in my voice.
"I'm sorry, but you need an appointment." She grins at me.
"Well I don't have an appointment, but I need to talk to Mr. Keager now!" I slam my hands on her desk.
"I'm sorry, but you can't see him," she whispers.
"Excuse me, but what is going on out here?" A man leaning in the doorway says.
"Mr. Keager, my mother sent me. She said you knew my father, William Hicks, and I need your help finding him." I tell.
He looks flabbergasted, "ohmygod! Melody?" I nod "Come into my office. We have a lot to talk about." 🔹
"Wow! You've grown," Kirby says. I thought something sassy like 'No Shit!' but I kept my mouth shut. Especially in front of a lawyer. "Last time I saw you. You were a baby," He says. I grin. "Now about your father. Billy Hicks was a reluctant man. He didn't want to grow up, but did. There were seven of us: Jules Van Patten, Wendy Beamish, Leslie Hunter, Kevin Dolenz, Alec Newbury, your father and I. We were a collage buddies. Real close friends. Always by each other's sides. Some of us still meet for lunch. But right after Billy and your mother divorced he moved to New York City in search of a career as a saxophonist. About 10 years ago, Wendy Beamish, left for New York to find him. We all showed up for the wedding. Man did she love him. After that we haven't heard from either of them." He tells.
"Thank you so much Mr. Keager," I say standing up.
"If you still want more information you might wanna talk to Alec and Leslie Newbury. They might know more." Kirby handed me a slip of paper with Alec's office and their home address.
"Thanks so much Mr. Keager." I smiled.
"Oh please, Melody call me Kirby," he chuckled.
"Thanks Kirby." I said as his phone rang.
I left before I could hear the conversation. "Next stop. The office of Alec Newbury," I smiled. The pieces of the puzzle were slowly coming together. I was one step closer to finding Billy Hicks.
