Bakugo X Deku Fanfic (AU)

Chapter 5

As Shoto sits listening to the doctor explaining everything, he can only stare at the fragile boy in the hospital bed.

“Do you have someone to take care of you?” The doctor asks and Midoriya looks at Shoto shyly.

“That would be me.” Shoto answers and the doctor looks at him sceptically.

“Not to be mean or anything, but you’re a Beta. You’ll be no match if any Alfa were to come after him. You must know this.” The doctor says and Shoto growls.

“Until he finds an acceptable mate, I’ll be protecting him. Even if it costs me my life. I’ve been taking care of him for six years already, a little longer won’t make any difference.” Shoto answers and the doctor nods.

“Just be careful. Do you have the pills?” The doctor asks, but before he can complete the question, Shoto interrupts.

“I already got them. He’ll be fine.” Shoto says curtly and turns his face away, seeing a lurking figure outside.

“Just excuse me for a moment.” Shoto says standing and leaving the room. As he walks outside, he sees Bakugo lurking around the corner.

“What the fuck, Kacchan? Why the hell are you lurking like a stalker? I told you to leave, didn’t I?” He asks grumbling, but his anger has left his body. He’s resigned to what will happen, even though the idea makes his sick to his stomach.

“I told you not to call me that. Anyway, so...the idea of being with him pisses me off, it makes me sick, but the idea of him being someone else’s...that makes me actually want to kill him, so no one can have him.” Bakugo says angrily and Shoto shakes his head.

“I guess it’s better than nothing, but until you can treat him like a person and not some toy or whatever the hell you call it, you just stay away.” Shoto says and returns to the room.

“What did the doctor say? Can you go home?” Shoto asks as he looks at Midoriya hopeful.

“Yep, I’m good to go. I just need to get vitamins and I don’t know what else and then I can go.” Izuku answers cheerfully.

“Why are you suddenly so happy?” Shoto asks suspiciously.

“I can go home.” Midoriya answers short and to the point.
The nurse enters and hands him his medication.

“Instructions are written on the back. Take care of yourself.” She says as she leaves and Midoriya changes into his clothes.

“Come on Todoroki. Let’s go home.” Midoriya says smiling like a goofball.
When they get home, they decide to make lunch and eat in front of the TV.

“Did Kacchan really say all those things?” Midoriya asks as he shoves another slice of bread into his mouth.

“Somehow I think that monster would say anything just so he can fuck with you some more. Seriously Izuku, why do you keep protecting him?” Shoto asks, his face turning red with anger.

“I know it’s hard to explain, but when we were little, well he was always protecting me, but when he grew up, he turned into...into that. You know that I could never hate him.” He says averting his eyes to the ground.

“For heaven’s sake Deku, how many broken bones did I see you get? How many busted lips and bruised eyes did I have to fix and hide. Yet you still believe that he can change?” Shoto asks angrily and Midoriya nods slowly.

“I know there is good in him; maybe...maybe I’m just not good enough to reach that part.” He says as tears start to well in his eyes.

Gaping at him open mouthed, he reaches over and grabs Midoriya’s face between his hands.

“Don’t you get it you idiot. I love you, I’ve been with you all this time and it’s as though you never see me as me. I don’t want to be just your best friend anymore.” Shoto says and pulls Midoriya in for a kiss, kissing him until he feels dizzy.

As Midoriya realizes what is happening, he pulls away and scuttles into the corner.

“Don’t Shoto, please don’t do that. I know how you feel about me, I’ve always known, but you being my friend is the only real thing I have in my life. Don’t...just...please...don’t ruin it.” Midoriya says sadly and Shoto looks at him.

“Why can’t you love me?” He asks sadly and Midoriya can’t look at his face.

He has never seen his friend sad or broken like this before.

“I’m sorry Todoroki. I do love you, but as a friend. Can you accept that?” Midoriya asks hopeful, but Shoto shakes his head.

“Just give me time please. I’ll still be your friend, but for now, I just need to leave. Remember to drink your medication.” Shoto says sadly and leaves Midoriya alone and heartbroken.

Heading home, Shoto sees the sky darkening with an upcoming storm and lays his ears flat against his head, never noticing the five boys across the street.

“See he’s leaving. Come on; let’s just play with him a bit.” The one says as he looks to the others with hopeful eyes.

“Bakugo’s gonna be pissed. You know he’ll never condone us beating up on that loser. He likes doing that on his own.” The other says.

“Just once, he’ll never know, just a bit. Ten minutes.” He says again and they all nod.

“Ten minutes, then we leave.” He answers and the others nod.

“We’ll do enough damage in ten minutes. Besides you all know that Bakugo hates him, so I don’t think he’ll mind if we fuck him up just a bit.” The one with the red tail says and everyone nods.
