Chapter One

______________________________________________________________________

‘Ari and Levi, I have some very exciting news’ my dad beamed at us and ushered us to sit down on the couch. I look at my twin brother Levi, with confusion and amusement.

It wasn’t a common thing to see my dad so… Excited? Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great dad, but he’s just so stressed and serious all the time. I guess you have to be to own a company.

I sit down and give my dad a small smile. It was refreshing to see him happy.

‘So dad, what’s this big, exciting news you have’ Levi asked sarcastically. My dad’s smile slips slightly. I frown at my brother. Of course he would be the one to put an end to dad’s good mood.

My dad clears his throat. ‘Well… You see I’ve quit my job.’

‘What?!’ Levi and I sputter at the same time. My dad quit his job? Can you quit owning a company?

‘How is this exciting, dad?!’ I ask shocked. He grins sheepishly.

‘Well...’ He starts again. Please don’t get worse. I silently beg.

‘I’ve sold the company, and got another job as a football coach.’ My dad says happily.

My eyes widen in surprise, my dad a football coach? I mean, I know that’s always been his dream but he’s in his 40’s for Christ sake!

‘Oh god dad, this is a midlife crisis, isn’t it? I told you that this was going to happen soon Ari, now look!’ Levi exclaimed throwing his hands in the air.

‘Levi!’ My father snapped, with an unimpressed look on his face. ‘This is not a midlife crisis!’ He took a deep breath and smiled again.

‘Anyway, I haven’t even got to the best bit!’ There’s more? Sweet baby Jesus…

‘I got a job as a football coach… In America!’ He says cheerily.

My whole body freezes. What. The. Fuck. No way am I moving to America, what about school, what about my friends!?

‘Dad! We can’t go to America, we have a life here you can’t just move us!’ Levi shouts, clearly as upset about this as me.

My dad glared at Levi until he sat back down. ‘Yes we are, we are moving next week, no arguments. I have enrolled you in the school I will be working in, and have bought a house over there already.’ Dad stated, he then turned on his heal and briskly walked out the room.

I look over at Levi with a look of horror on my face.

‘Levi… We’re going to live in America.’ I said whisper in a state of shock.

He sighed. ‘I guess we are.’
