Chapter Five "The Right Way To Lie"

"Naomi?" I ran as fast as a bullet to get to where the scream had come from. Eventually I made it out of the abandoned building, but I tripped on an old tree's stump. I was beginning to feel the flashback rushing from the day Sparrow was killed, and suddenly there was a bright light shining in my face.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Naomi moved the light out of my face and helped me off the ground.

"No," I dusted the dirt off of myself, "What the fuck are you doing?!"

"I was just helping your sorry ass off the ground," Naomi ran her fingers through her hair to get the knots out, "And by the way you still have not thanked me."

"Why the hell would I thank you if you just screamed fucking bloody murder?!" I was beginning to shout and you could hear the echo through the small forest that surrounded this building.

"What are you talking about?" Naomi folded her arms, "I didn't scream."

"So what? You think I am just making that up?" Naomi gave me a confused look, so I whipped around to look for my phone on the ground.

"What are you looking for?" Naomi knelt down beside me and began to dig in the dirt.

"I'm looking for my phone, I dropped it when I fell," I shuffled more dirt around, but my phone had practically disappeared to thin air, "Just great, my parents are going to kill me."

"You're just lucky that you didn't hit your head when you fell," Naomi stood up and headed back to the car, "Come on, we need to go home."

"Fine," I stood up and followed, "Where do I drop you off?"

"Drop me off at 254 Misquite Street," Naomi sat in the back seat this time and didn't say a word as I drove us home.

 ***

I never said a word to anyone about the kiss I shared with Naomi, I didn't want any rumors going around that I was gay. Because I'm not.

Over this passed week I saw that I have qualified as missing... My parents have been texting and calling me nonstop. They said they wouldn't send out a search party or ground me if I came home soon. Of course I didn't reply to this, so they told the police. But if they haven't found me, what makes them so sure the police can? And when you live in such a small town, you'd think it'd be easy to find out where your daughter has been hiding for the past week.

I had begun to be low on cash and I found this out when I went grocery shopping for Rogie's little shack. I walked in with about five paper bags filled with food.

"Well I see you went shopping again," Rogie said while flipping through the channels on the old, overused TV.

"Yeah, get your ass up and help me," I ordered as I threw the grocery bags on the table.

"Maybe after I take a nap," Rogie stretched out on the couch and shut his eyes.

I threw a couch cushion at his face, "I said, get your ass up."

"Fine, mom!" He joked as he came to help me.

We began putting away the groceries until his phone rang.

"One second," He pulled out his phone and walked into the hall, "I will be right back."

I stopped putting the groceries away and stood against the doorway to the hall. If Rogie knew I was eavesdropping on him, he'd probably kick me out. But he has been super secretive lately and I felt i deserved some answers, whether he was willing to give them to me or not.
