( TW: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH, GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF CORPSE)
Logan looked down at the bloody petal resting in the palm of his hand. After a major coughing fit, and getting some blood on his papers, a small petal landed in the palm of his hand. The petal of a Daffodil.
He remembers the meaning of the flower, unrequited love. Logan was beyond confused. This was impossible. But then again, anything is possible in the mindscape.
He huffed, brushing it off as he dropped the petal into the trash can. He took out a small notepad and jotted down some notes in a familiar cipher: Vbpswrpv- Frxjklqj shwdov. He decided that he would jot down these strange outbursts as they happened as his attempt to undersatnd. He went back to his monotonous task of doing paperwork.
---
The next day he was sitting at the dinning
table eating his breakfast and drinking his coffee. Virgil sat next to him, Patton across from him, and Roman diagonal.Patton looked up at Logan and met his gaze. "How's your coffee teach? Did I make it correctly?" Patton smiled, and Logan spit out his coffee as he started up in another coughing fit.
Patton got up from his chair immediately, Roman's eyes widening and Virgil backing away. He stood next to Logan and rubbed his back, apologizing many times. The coughing only escalated under Patton's touch as Logan fell of his chair, shaking with every cough.
Bloody petals fell from his mouth, and didn't stop until Roman had picked the Side up and brought him into the bathroom and had him kneel in front of the toilet. Tears fell from his eyes, mixing with the blood and petals in the bowl.
Roman rubbed the logical side's back as his coughing slowly died down. He took deep shaky breaths, he couldn't see, everything was blurry. He was in so much pain. He knew the others were talking, he could see their mouths moving, but all he heard was the ringing in his ears.
He felt so weak as he was placed onto his bed, glasses removed along with his tie and shoes. He was tucked under the covers by a blurry blue and grey figure who he figured was Patton. He saw him speaking to another two figures in his doorway, then they slowly left.
His hearing finally cleared up along with his vision, the distance still blurry without his glasses though. Patton, noticing Logan seeming more down to earth spoke softly. "How're you feeling teach?"
Logan replied, his voice raspy. "H-urts." He pointed to his throat then his chest.
Patton nodded. "Would you like some pain killers?" Logan nodded slowly in response. Patton left the room, leaving Logan's mind to think. He took out his notepad and pen and added to the list: Vbpswrpv zruvhq durxqg Sdwwrq.
Patton returned with the pills in hand along with a glass of water, handing them both to Logan. He took the pills and washed them down greedily. Thanking Patton and returning the glass to him as he placed it on the nightstand. "Better?" He asked, Logan nodded in response.
"Do you know what's happening to you?" He tilted his head like a dog as Logan shook his head, then handed his notepad over to Patton, who was the only person he had taught the cipher to. The Side paused, eyebrows furrowing in confusion, then widening in realisation. "Oh... I've seen something about this somewhere. It's called Hanahaki disease. It's an illness born from one-sided love, where the patient throws up and coughs up flower petals when they suffer from unrequited love. The infection can be removed through surgery, but the feelings and the memory of when you had the disease disappear along with the petals. If it's not resolved within a few weeks the patient will die."
