When I was younger I thought the world hated me. I thought that "If I had disappeared, then will I be happy?"

At least that's what my mother planted into my head. She never loved me, "I was just an accident" she called called me.

She never wanted to have me, but my dad debated otherwise. He wanted to have a child to raise and take care of. I was happy because of him, but after the incident, I lost all courage to speak. I was scared because my mother succeeded in breaking me.

When I turned 10 after my fathers death, my mom was taken to prison for the horrible things she's done to me so I was put up for adoption. No one wanted to take me in because of my age and along with the fact I couldn't speak.

I had friends in that orphanage even though they were all younger than me. But sadly most of them left due to adoption. I was doing better, but the fear of never having a family again scared me.

☆️--Present Time--☆️

I had recently turned 15 and I still have yet to be adopted, but I was okay with that. The owner of the orphanage, Nanashima, was like a mother to me and said if I wasn't adopted by the time I turned 16 she would take me in as her own.

But here's the problem. Even though so many years have passed I am still a mute, unable to talk to anyone. So Nanashima bought me a book to write in seeing no one in the orphanage knew how to talk in sign.

I sat on my bed in the girls' dormitory reading a book like I usually did when there was nothing better to do. All the other kids were downstairs in the backyard playing with each other, and I had really felt like not wanting to go outside today.

The book I absolutely loved to read was called "Tōi Sekai" by Shimura Tosuka. It was based on a girl named Kai who lived alone with her father as they try to make it by with the low amount of money they have. Eventually, she finds herself meeting a boy named Tashimaru at the flower shop she works at and they fall in love with one another after finding out they attend to the same school. I had fallen in love with this book always picturing myself as Kai trying to find my Tashimaru.

"(Y/n)." I heard Nanashima call out snapping me out of my trance. I looked over at her showing her I was paying attention. She had a wide smile on her face even though she was panting, she must have ran up the stairs. Nana came over to hugged my which confused me a bit. "A family has requested to see you." She said quietly.

Joy filled up my heart, was this true, was this reality, has all those years of torture and loneliness finally ended. I hugged back Nana as tears welled up in my eyes. I was so happy. I'm finally gonna have a home.

I walked down the stairs with Nana and saw the family. The father had vibrant orange hair while the mother had short brown hair. I looked at the people besides them as I assumed they were their children. The children had the same vibrant orange hair as the father, but theirs were much fluffier. The eldest seemed to be around my age, though he was relatively small still being taller than me. The youngest one seemed to be 5 with her hair pulled up into pink tails.

I stood in front of the family of four. "This is (y/n) (l/n), she has just recently turned 15 years old. She is a very kind and clever girl." Nana introduced me as I bowed to the family.

"Wow, she so pretty." The girl said as a faint blush appeared on my face.

"Nice to meet you (y/n), my name is Hinata Aiko." The mother said holding out her hand to me. I took her hand shaking it, but she seemed confused as to why didn't respond.

"Oh, you see because of a terrible event (y/n) has lost all confidence in talking. Sadly she still has yet to get over it and still remains mute." Nana explained to them. I looked down in shame knowing that now the family would never take me in.

I felt a large hand patting the top of my head as I looked up to see the fathers smiling face. "Well that's fine by me, she's a sweet girl I can tell. All we have to do is help her get out of it, right?" He said looking over to the rest of his family.

"Right!" The children said in unison as the mother nodded her head with a smile.

"Seems like you're officially apart of the Hinata Family." The father- I mean, my dad said with a smile.

I bowed before all of them feeling happier than ever. "She means thank you," Nana said with a chuckle.

I looked back up at the family and smiled. "My name is Natsu, and the big doofus right there is Shouyou." Natsu, my new little sister said to me pointing up at her brother.

"Hey!" Shouyou yelled at his sister as I let out a small laugh through my nose.

"(Y/n), how about you go upstairs and get your stuff packed. You are leaving today after all." Nana said as I ran back upstairs to pack all my stuff.

"Today is the day, I'm finally leaving." I thought as I opened the door to the girls' dormitory.

I pulled my suitcase out from under my bed and opened my bedside table drawers and began to pack all my clothes and belongs into it. I picked up my Teddy bear and looked down to it and smiled. It was the first and only give my dad has ever given me, I keep this as a reminder that I'm not alone even if he's dead.

"So you're leaving (y/n)." I heard Shimi say. I look back to see all the children in the orphanage by the door. Shimi came running and jumped into my arms and hugged me tightly. "I'm gonna miss you." She said as tears began to run down my face as I hugged her back just as tightly. I was really gonna miss them all.

☆️--Time Skip--☆️

"So you're in a Volleyball team! For what school?" I asked as he read what was on the page of the book.

"I play for Karasuno as the middle blocker," Shoyo explained to me.

"You don't look like a middle blocker." I held up the book with a confused look on my face.

"Well I don't look like it, but I can jump really high. I usually spike more often than I block though." Shoyo said with a chuckle.

"What do you like to do," Natsu asked me.

"I like reading and knitting. My hobbies aren't all that fun in others opinions but I do like watching volleyball games." I said showing the book to the both of them.

"Really, you should come and see my practice after school. Everyone on the team is super cool." Shoyo said with excitement.

"Okay!"

°~°~°~°

Wow, only first chapter and I am already in love with this story.

Oh, and before you asked Tōi Sekai is not actually a book. I just came up with it on the spot. Tōi Sekai translates to Distant World and the only reason why I put it in is that the reader is similar to Kai in many ways. It's like they're connected even though Kai isn't real.

Anyways I hope you like this chapter as much as I did.

Thank you for reading! 😊
