You stood in silence, immobile as marble
As I scattered the red petals of my love around you.
Nervously I fluttered, aware the more I drew close
The further away you stood, discomfited by adoration.
I could not hide the ticking of my open heart,
You could not hide your disdain.
The spell passed, my passion cooled by reticence
And your caged heart ceased to fascinate.
But when another loved me, warming with hot kissesYou missed the heat of my skin on your sheets.
It was your turn to scatter petals in vain,
And sing your tired love songs to my heart
But your petals went untouched and song unheard,
Because my soul had found its mate.
