Isolated Patients

I watch the numbers as they keep increasing, the brisk movement of the elevator causing my stomach to churn. Elevators in 2100 tend to do that to you. Small beads of moisture form on my forehead and I can feel the trickle of sweat begin to run down the sides of my face. I am unprepared for what I might face, the very thought of what could be at the top of the building makes me feel alive with the adrenaline of terror. The elevator stops, the doors open and I step out cautiously.

I slowly walked to the door at the end of the corridor. There was blood all over the floor and walls, there was graffiti everywhere. I gulped. Anything could jump out at me. I walked at a slow pace moving down the corridor. The lights were flickering on and off, which sent shivers throughout my body. I tried to avoid the pools of blood, I also pushed aside the deserted beds – which looked more like dirty mattresses on wheels – that were blocking my way. I could hear something banging around in the lower levels of the hospital. Something caught my eye. I turned around to where I thought I saw something moving. Nothing was there.

I continued my journey to the end of the corridor. There were two other rooms opposite each other about ten metres away from the door at the end. As I approached the first door – which was on the left – I looked at the metal sign on the half destroyed door. It was the sign to show that it was the women’s bathroom. I guessed that the room opposite was the men’s. I slowly pushed the heavy door open. It made a loud high pitched creek that echoed down the hall. I walked in and the tiled floor was covered in pools of blood and papers. The lights were flickering so I quickly walked out the door; not wanting to see what was waiting in there for me. The men’s bathroom looked very similar. There was a drawing of a family in a hospital room – which must have been drawn by a five year old – stuck to the back of the door with dried blood. I didn’t like the feel in there. It felt weird, like something was going to jump out at me and scare me.

Before I knew it I was at the end of the corridor. There was a small metal sign above the dark blue door Engraved into the metal plate were the words ‘isolated patients’. I didn’t really want to go in there. I had seen all the movies; there is something bad when there is a room that says ‘Isolated’ in the name. I looked down to grab the handle and there were words engraved in the door. ‘Monster’ ‘Terror’ ‘Dead’. Slowly I decided to turn the handle. As soon as I stepped into the room I could smell the horrid smell of decomposing bodies. Opposite the door was a massive bloody scratch scraped against the wall. I walked a bit deeper into the room, the sound of my feet clapping on the bloody tiles echoed in the room. Moving more of the wheeling beds out of my way I moved slowly around the corner. Suddenly the door slammed shut. The horrid sound echoed in the dark room, and continued to ring in my ears. Now I was trapped, but I knew I was not here alone…

I did not write the first paragraph, we had to expand from it (which was our task). This is my school submission for an assignment so please dont copy this. Thanks :)
