Beautiful art of Shadowstep not by me

The Rainwing tiled her wings, veering through the trees in the Rainforest to a large tree with clusters of fruit. The Rainwing landed on the trunk of the tree, digging her serrated claws into the soft bark and hoisting herself up onto a thick branch sheltered by a roof and walls of leaves. The branch provided her free access to the bunches of fruit.

She reached up, slicing a fruit off of the stem and into her talon. She sliced the fruit in half, letting the juice drip down her talons and sinking her teeth into the food. The dragon ate it slowly, before licking the juice from her claws and from her jaws.

She sank down onto the branch, laying across it like a feline and letting her eyelids flutter shut. She breathed gently, trying to fall into sleep along the branch, her hind legs digging into the branch so that she didn't fall to the distant forest floor.

She was almost asleep when she heard a rustling noise in the leaves. Her head shot up, her extra horns rattling against her ridged scales. She scrambled to her feet, spreading her wings to balance herself before she climbed quickly up the trunk, using the natural knots in the wood to help her climb.

The rustling sound grew heavier, as if a dragon was climbing awkwardly through the tree. The dragon narrowed her silvery eyes, silently creeping along the branch and peeking through a gap in the bushes.

She saw a flash of purple scales, before a claw was against her throat and she was pinned to the branch below her. The dragon roared, kicking her hind legs at her attacker. The opposing dragon let out a grunt and fell backwards, nearly rolling off of the branch. The purple dragon pounced on her, slicing a claw against the dragon's scales.

A screech before the two dragon tackled each other, rolling off the branch and plummeting to the ground. The purple dragon unattached herself from the other dragon, throwing open her wings to stop her fall. The other dragon used her tail to wrap around a branch and swing herself around and onto a branch again.

The dragon stood there, panting heavily, staring at the purple dragon. The purple dragon looked like a mix between a Rainwing and a Sandwing, with the shifting colors and build of a Rainwing but the sail of a Sandwing and the same lethal barbed tail.

The purple dragon snarled, landing on the branch. "Give up. Your Queen's rein will be no more."

The dragon took a step back. "I don't follow the Queen. Because of her, my parents are gone and I'm alone."

The hybrid's gaze softened, before she snarled. "Liar." She spat. "Why would you be out here in the Rainforest if you were a rebel?"

The dragon took another step back. "You're a rebel and you're out here."

The other dragon hissed. "Why are you out here?"

"I told you. My parents were taken away. I live here."

"How has the Queen not found you yet?" She growled.

The dragon raised her arm, letting her scales shift to camouflage with its surroundings. The hybrid sniffed.

"You're not a Rainwing." The hybrid said. "At least, not fully."

The dragon shook her head. "One of my parents was an Icewing. I don't know which parent that was, of course. They abandoned me in the Rainforest when I was an egg, during the Elimination."

The other hybrid seemed to slightly relax. "So you're really not working for the Queen?"

The dragon shook her head. "I would have turned you in already if I did. My name is Tropic."
